Solved Quote marks don't show up . . .

I am still new to Win 11 Pro (22H2 OS Build 22621.1848), and I noticed that even if I am in Note Pad, MS Office, or anywhere, when I type either the apostrophe or quote marks, they don't show until I type the next letter. Once, I got a different letter than I typed with an umlaut over it. I looked it up, and if you are having a similar problem, go to start, and type in language - which will show "Edit Language & Keyboard Options," and get rid of all keyboards but U.S. English Qwerty. It worked for me!

Which other keyboards did you have installed? I'm just curious.
Could you have accidentally triggered sticky keys?

I just got this new computer about 2 weeks ago. It is a Dell, and Win 11 Pro was installed on it before I received it. When I checked in the software today, it had two keyboards installed. One was U.S. International, and the other was U.S. Qwerty. The article I read said to eliminate all but the U.S. Qwerty keyboard, and that did fix it. And, as far as I know, I didn't trigger sticky keys. Maybe the extra keyboard was installed at Dell or it is part of that particular build? There is a way to add other keyboards in that part of the controls.
With the setup being unfamiliar to me, I don't remember, but the computer may have asked if I wanted this keyboard during the initial setup, and I didn't know to say no! I wouldn't have known the difference.

This is where I got the idea that you might have enebled sticky keys. If you type CTRL + ' the single quote does not appear until you type the next letter. This sounds similar to what you experienced.

Thanks for the welcome. As I replied to Kelper, I may have inadvertently okayed the installation of the second keyboard during setup, without knowing it would cause a problem.

Cntrl + is also a possibility (I've been known to make a mistake or two when typing ), but there were two keyboards visible in the control panel, and eliminating one of them took care of it.

Having several languages (includes keyboards) installed should not be a problem.

In the Netherlands from time to time we use accented characters, but not as much as in French or German (where they have separate keys for those accented characters on a dedicated keyboard for their language, AZERTY or QWERTZ).
And while keyboards here usually have standard US-layout, we must use the US-International setup.
We can then (for instance) type a quote followed by an e making the character é.

The consequence of that is, that we always have to type a space character after the quote, if we really want a quote character.

If you don't need accented characters, your choice to eliminate the US International setup, is the right one!
So for me, US English International is the right choice, which for you, is not!

Thanks, all. I, as Kees says, made the right choice for me. One of the things that happened with showing two keyboards in the control panel was that I hit the shift key and the quote marks once to start a quote, and it showed a U with an umlaut on the screen. I hope everyone is able to resolve these issues wherever they are.
