I just bought a Raspberry pi 5 and am trying to connect it to a ViewSonic portable monitor (TD1655) that I bought 2 years ago. I plugged the USB-A end of the cable into the Raspberry Pi and the USB-C end into the ViewSonic. But the monitor says that it isn't receiving any signal. Am I using the wrong cable? The ViewSonic has two USB-C ports and 1 mini-HDMI port.

I could connect the Raspberry Pi into my Asus monitor using either :
1) the USB-A to USB-C cable, but I think I would get the same results
2) a HDMI to micro-HDMI cable (it's a regular HDMI cable with a micro-HDMI adapter at one end)

I would think I'd get the same "No signal" message. But am I missing something in all this? I've yet to actually use the Raspberry Pi.

Something to do with it being DisplayPort over USB-C, I'd guess.

My motherboard has a loopback that takes a DisplayPort output of a GPU, uses a cable to send it into a port on the MB, and then graphics are available from a USB 4 port. Unfortunately, that seems to only work after Windows drivers become active, so it can't be used to get into the BIOS settings.

The raspberry Pi does not support video out of the USB-C ports, or any USB port for that matter. Only the mini HDMI.

This is a limitation of the hardware employed and you can't get around it, as far as I know.

The USB-C connector is for power only. You need to use a specific power adapter that puts out 5 volts.

I use a microHDMI to HDMI cable to plug into most monitors. However, my current 15.6" LED portable monitor has a miniHDMI port. With it I have to use a microHDMI to miniHDMI cable.

However, for the past year I have been connecting to my Raspberry Pi 5 using a remote connection from my laptop with Windows 11. I use the program RealVNC Viewer to connect remotely to my Raspberry Pi 5.
