I'm trying to reinstall Windows 11 on my wife's nieces HP laptop. The drive I want to install it to isn't being seen in the setup. Thinking that I need to turn off RAID I went into the BIOS. There is no option. It only shows the drive as being non RAID. Is there another setting I need to change in the BIOS. If I need the Intel driver, where can I download it. All I found is a .exe file.

can you make/burn a live Linux bootable USB
Ubuntu will do

then boot to the live Linux desktop on that laptop and check the drive from the live Linux system
it will give you a good idea if the drive is working fine and you can also format the drive from there

then try the install of Windows again

I experienced same scenario on an HP that I had to reinstall windows on. What I discovered was if I disabled Secure Boot in the bios, the installation went as expected. Afterward go back into the Bios and enable Secure Boot again. Anyway try, it may work for you.

Thanks to all that replied! I managed to find a link showing how extract the drivers from the .exe file I downloaded. I just needed to be in the folder with the file and right click on the mouse and choose Open in Terminal. Then I ran this command ./SetupRST.exe -extractdrivers SetupRST_extracted. I copied the folder it created to the install USB and when I got to the screen asking for the disk I wanted to install windows on I pointed the install to to VMD folder and the drive showed up. I'm doing the install as I type. I'm going to mark this as solved and will post back on how the install went.

I did have Secure Boot disabled on the last try but the drive still didn't show until I loaded a VMD driver.

Windows 11 25H2 build 2600.8037 is now installed on the laptop. I installed the free version of Macrium and making a system image. Once finished I'll check for updates.

For the little more advanced posters, you can also use NT Lite to integrate the Intel driver in the Windows ISO and then create a USB flash drive with that ISO. Then Setup will always find the disk as the driver is already there. Older folks might remember the similar situation trying to install Windows XP on a Vista laptop and Setup would not detect the disk. Back then we used nLite to integrate the SATA drivers in the ISO before burning on disc. Once I had created an ISO with almost all the known SATA drivers so I could install Windows XP in any laptop by just booting the Windows XP CD-ROM.
