I have an old Lenovo Thinkstation desktop that runs Win 11 with couple of minor issues. PC has 1 SSD, 1 DVD and 3 HDD's.
I decided to replace the SSD with another one that had Win 11 installed.
PC boots up ok, but file explorer only shows C drive.?
So widows doesnt reconise the HDD's and DVD, though bios does.
Take out the new SDD and put original one back in everything works fine.

My guess is that your ThinkStation is booting from the swapped‑in SSD, but Windows on that SSD is missing the storage controller drivers or using a different SATA mode than your original install — so Windows boots, but cannot enumerate the HDDs or DVD even though the BIOS sees them.

Check Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates for any drivers

Enter BIOS > Storage > SATA Mode
Ensure it matches the original working configuration (likely AHCI on ThinkStations)

Install Lenovo Chipset + Storage Drivers
Since the new SSD came from another machine, Windows may be missing:
- Intel chipset drivers
- Intel SATA AHCI controller driver
- Intel RST (if used)
- Lenovo-specific storage controller drivers

Install from Lenovo Support for your ThinkStation model page (Don't worry if they are old):
- Chipset Driver
- Intel AHCI / RST Driver
- MEI (Management Engine)
- Storage Controller Driver

Reboot > drives should (hopefully) appear.

I'm on the original SSD at the moment, so will change to new SDD, I did a full update when I installed the new SSD.
I will look at he other options you suggested, might take me a couple of days, I'm 77 and do things slowly.
I actually have another Lenovo PC at another location with the same problem and put it in the to hard basket.
Thanks for your help and will let you know how I go in due course.

That doesn't quite answer my question as Rufus is used to create the Windows installation, it does not install Windows.

Quite likely the original SSD has Lenovo OEM Firmware. No idea what the significance is, just stating fact.
You can find out by installing the SSD manufacturers storage App. For my Laptop it is Micron Storage Executive.

For the most part driver updates come thru Windows updates, some via the Lenovo Vantage App notably BIOS/UEFI Firmware.
From memory there were some Firmware updates from Windows updates but the History list was restarted with 25H2 version update.

You can of course go to Lenovo support and lookup some of this with your specific serial number.
