Hi,
In Windows 11 the search box in common file dialogs like Save As, Open, or Browse does not persist the typed search term (name of folder just been previously searched) across different dialog sessions, nor does it shows a dropdown history of previous searches. After saving as a file, when I want to save another file in the same folder I must type it again and again. Is it possible to have that feature (remembering folders/files, dropdown list) as I had it in win 10 ? Please advise. If this was discussed here, please point me to the proper links.

Currently you can save searches from the taskbar but not from file explorer. You might try a 3rd party file explorer alternative as suggested here. See this thread. Windows Explorer Search History Not Displayed

See this tutorial to save taskbar searches.

Hi, thank you, I will study this, but looked briefly and I understand that having this feature that I had on win 10 is impossible now ?
This is annoying to write the same folders' names because everything disappears now after closing eg, "save as" window. Is there a workaround for this ?

AFIK it is the way Windows files explorer is now designed. There are all kinds of suggestions across the web from rebuilding search, search troubleshooter, using group policy, all the way to doing a repair install and more, but none of it worked from the reports I read.

I rarely use file explorer search but do ocassionally. I checked my "searches" folder and nothing was there. I made test searches, still nothing is recorded.

This has actually been broken for most folks since 2023. That's why it is my thinking that it is by design. If you want to read a 30 page thread about it you can read here.

That last page gives you an option from Neowin to re-instate the Windows 10 file explorer. However, that was in mid 2024 so, if you decide to go that way, I strongly suggest you make an image of your system. Even though Neowin gives a reverse operation lots has happened in Windows 11 since then, especially in file explorer. I would consider it a risky thing to do so I advise caution. Use at your own risk..

Thank you very much! I've been wondering if there's any way to 'transplant' the Windows 10 File Explorer into Windows 11 – something like replacing the default one or keeping both of them.

Something like that. Have you tried this already ? Will that change bring previous search recalls about ? Should I make a system backup first ?
