Windows 11 Pro
I have long used Remote Desktop to use or close the 'upstairs' Win 11 pc from the 'downstairs' Win 11 pc simply by entering the name or IP of the 'upstairs' pc in Remote Desktop but this recently has stopped working. Both computers are working normally if used directly. I don't tinker these days so what may have changed?

Is your wifi network set to public or private? Is network discovery turned off? Look in File Explorer and click on Network.

I guess I knew beforehand that I probably wouldn't be able to physically do what I would be advised to do.

Sir, just saying "it doesn't work" is not enough information. We can't see what is going on. Describe to us exactly what is happening. Do you get any error message? Are both machines current on updates? What version of windows is on each machine? Does each machine see the other in network map? Has both machines been restarted lately?

There have been some updates recently which increased security for RDP. Perhaps, you can ask a friend or familty member to do the legwork for you.

There is simply no response at all when I press Enter after entering the remote machine's IP in Remote Desktop and no error messages either. It's also worth saying that I can access any shares on upstairs pc through Windows Explorer but I can't control the system as I used to. The two systems are fully updated to the latest version of W11 and both get restarted every day.

Co-pilot gives a quite lengthy set of troubleshooting steps. Most can be run from downstairs PC. WHILE VIEWING THIS THREAD, I suggest you open a co-pilot chat in the sidebar and ask the exact question I did "Please analyze this thread".

That way you can interact with co-pilot with your answers as you walk through the steps as co-pilot gives them to you. Your answers are critical for co-pilot to steer you in the right direction.

Just to advise you, you might want to install windows update KB5129195 released today. It fixed some remote desktop issues.
