Devices Remove Bluetooth Device in Windows 11

This tutorial will show you how to remove a Bluetooth device in Windows 11.

Bluetooth is a short range wireless technology which enables wireless data transmission between two Bluetooth enabled devices located nearby each other.

There are many different types of Bluetooth enabled devices you can add and pair to your PC, such as mobile phones, wireless headsets, speakers, fitness trackers, mouse, keyboard, etc...

If you no longer want the Bluetooth device connected to your Windows 11 PC, you can remove it.

If the Bluetooth device is paired, but not connected or working, you could try to remove and pair the device again.

Bluetooth devices are saved under the registry key below:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BTHPORT\Parameters\Devices

Here's How:

1 Open Settings (Win+I).

2 Click/tap on Bluetooth & devices on the left side. (see screenshots below step 4 and 5)

3 Turn on Bluetooth if not already.

4 If the Bluetooth device (ex: "HP Tilt Pen") is listed at the top, click/tap on its More options (3 dots) button, click/tap on Remove device, and go to step 6. (see screenshot below)

5 If the Bluetooth device (ex: "HP Tilt Pen") is not listed at the top, click/tap on the View more devices link, click/tap on the More options (3 dots) button for the Bluetooth device (ex: "HP Tilt Pen"), click/tap on Remove device, and go to step 6. (see screenshots below)

6 Click/tap on Yes to confirm. (see screenshot below)

Starting with Windows 11 build 25281, when removing a paired Bluetooth device, it will no longer pop up a prompt to confirm before removing it.

7 You can now close settings if you like.

That's it,

Some other methods that might help some people if they cannot re-pair after removing Bluetooth devices from Settings, Devices, Bluetooth:-

1 Right-click on the device in Control panel, Devices & printers then select Remove device

2 Use Bluetooth command line tools to remove individual or all paired devices.
- There is a discussion of finding the correct Mac address for removing individual devices with Bluetooth command line tools - see Can't remove paired bluetooth devices [post #5 & later ones] - TenForums

3 Steps to completely remove a bluetooth device so pairing can be done again [post #22, KeithM] - TenForums

4 Steps to completely remove a bluetooth device so pairing can be done again [post #39, Bungee] - TenForums

Some people have reported that one method worked but others did not. I have never found a decent explanation for such variation in experiences.

All the best,
Denis

It does not seem to show in list of Bluetooth Devices in my Device manager

I rechecked all the instructions on the device I was trying to play via a distant speaker (Spotify) initially it still would neither connect or could be removed.

I then clicked on "add A Device" and went through that procedure and this time the device shown previously as not connecting or removable did connect.

So I do not need assistance accept maybe in understanding - but that maybe an unrealistic hope with an IT dope like me!

Incidentally that Speaker is now showing in the Device Manager

That is not working for me
Andrew,

Please explain exactly what is not working for you. Please state what you did and what the computer response was so that people can understand as much about your problem as they would have done if they had been looking over your shoulder while you were doing it all.
In the post immediately above yours, I described four different methods that people have said worked for them.
  • I have almost always used my suggestion 1.
  • I once had to go to my suggestion 2. I just used the simplest command btpair -u and accepted that doing so meant I would have to re-pair all devices not just the problem one.
  • Other people have had to use suggestions 3, 4.

Best of luck,
Denis

Andrew,

Our posts crossed in the ether.
I'm glad it works now.
Bluetooth is normally well-behaved but procedures such as this tutorial's & my suggestions are sometimes needed to clear things out so you can start again.

All the best,
Denis

I am sorry I did not properly read those comments on the tutorial - I hope I have explained it sufficiently clearly in my previous post.

I am very grateful for all the help I receive - due to neurological disabilities Dyspraxia/DCD and Dyslexia I can have comprehension difficulties and actuall miss something that is right in front of me as happened on this occasion.

Sorry for any confusion I have caused - will it help if I delete my posts in this thread?

No, not at all.
There was no real posting problem anyway. It was just that I was still replying to your first post when you posted a second one that was much more explanatory.
All posts such as yours may help somebody in the future who lands on this thread whilst searching for solutions.

All the best,
Denis

Welcome to ElevenForum.

It's really worth making time to browse through the ElevenForum Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every ElevenForum page [within the Tutorials dropdown list].
- At the foot of the ElevenForum Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
- I download a new copy each month.
- By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
- ElevenForum tutorials are also listed at Tutorials and there's a shortcut to that at the top of every page.

You can search ElevenForum using the search box in the top-right corner of all ElevenForum webpages or using Advanced Search - ElevenForum
- You can also search ElevenForum threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:elevenforum.com after your search term. For example,
Taskbar setup site:elevenforum.com
- [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of ElevenForum webpages does automatically]
