Remove partition on hard drive

I have a new Windows 11 pc with a 2TB SSD. I created a 500MB partition to use for data only, i. e. no program installations.

However, I immediately recognized I had mad a mistake in that I intended to partition 500GB. I thought no problem, I’ll just figure out how to delete it since nothing has been written to it.

I turns out there is not a delete (that I can find). I now have an unallocated 500MB partition on my hard drive and I’m not sure what that means. I tried to expand it to 500GB, but that that didn’t work.

I still want to create a 500GB partition, but can anyone tell me how to get rid of that 500MB unallocated space.

Hi, David. Welcome.

Right click on your Widows Start Menu button and select “Disk management”
On the unallocated space, In disk management, right click on it and select initialise.
Then format the partition if it doesn’t prompt you to.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and tips. I have included the screen shot of Disk Management (DM) that Jumanji requested and have added a little more about what I’ve done.

After I did the 500MB partition, it showed up in File Explorer as E: with 500MB.

I used DM to delete the partition, but as explained earlier, I was left 500MB of unallocated space which I am assuming means I have 500MB on my drive that cannot be used. But I’m not sure of that.

DM will allow me to Expand or Shrink the space. Shrinking worked fine, but I want to get rid of it, not just reduce the size. Expanding is useless, unless I don’t know what I’m doing because I could not expand beyond the 500MB. I could shrink it down, but only expand it back up to 500MB.
