Sorry, I'm confused.

Presumably the 500GB OEM NVME drive is your boot drive. I'm not sure what the precise configuration would be if a second OS is installed on the HDD for a dual boot. Is that the way the PC is set up? I haven't done a dual boot in many years.

I'm not sure what you best method would be for cloning the OEM M.2 drive. What I would do is image the drive to a backup drive (or the internal HDD, if there's enough space). I would have a rescue USB drive for the imaging software handy. I'd then swap in the new M.2 drive, boot for the USB rescue drive, and restore the image to the new M.2 drive.

Another alternative could be to put the new M.2 drive in an external enclosure or dock, and then do a direct clone. Such enclosures are fairly cheap (in the US, at least), but I'd prefer to have the image regardless.

If you clone a Legacy-MBR HDD drive to a NVMe drive it will remain as Legacy-MBR.
Some computers, NVMe only boots as UEFI-GPT

@jestrada47

I did this on several computers, none of them went straight boot-up (i.e. when hdd to NVMe SSD image or clone). typically I had to do:

1. repair. tried several times before giving up. If lucky, one of trials could boot up when repairing.
2. re-work clone. I was using MR (Macrium Reflect). It's NOT prefect. Many times, my PC needed its reclone then boot up. i.e. Clone SW could be unreliable.
3. SATA hdd --> SATA SSD --> NVMe SSD. all must use disk-copy clone. it's tedious. but so far, 100% working.

The clone software you used could be unreliable.

The obvious answer is to use different software that is reliable

If "jestrad47" cloned the wrong drive, it doesn't matter which software was used.

I've never used the Aomei software, but, AFAIK, it's good.

Thanks,

I hadn't said, my post was referring to Windows 7 OS transfer (Here is Windows 11 forum. ;-) )

Windows 10/11 OS transfer just was fine. However I didn't do it often. I am still on Windows 7 train.

My post #5 was obviously a response to the siliconbeaver post #4
