That’s the latest thing I read. I had tried it on an update and it didn’t work. Only on clean install

When clean installing Windows 11 you boot your computer with bootable Windows 11 installation media and to bypass the restrictions you modify the registry.

When upgrading Windows 10 to Windows 11 you start the upgrade process from booted Windows 10 you can't change registry values while upgrading.

More than one way to upgrade from 10 to 11....

Yes, there is. There is the registry loaded with WinPE.

Ok.. I think in the end it would be kind of silly to bypass two of the requirements. I would rather have a secure system than leave anything to chance. And if you or anyone can't get 11 to work,,, stick with 10. It's still a great OS.

Except that on systems where you don't have those two requirements, the installer will stop because of the fact they are missing, hence the need for the registry fix.

True, but FWIW I would rather not skip those tests and have a secure system. YMMV as usual

If you select the Upgrade option after booting from the ISO file (or other installation media), you just get an error:

How is it safer to stick with what you have that doesn't pass those requirements?

Nice. Why even have that option in the booted installer?

Sometimes, I really wonder at Microsoft's practices.....

Yes, there is. I was amazed but I did successfully get win 11 to install doing the modification to windows registry. It seems setup starts building the registry immediately and registry is present and setup is easy to find. And yes, the machine has security missing - TPM - but it will run until the official release late this year or early next year. by then I will have purchased new computers. It gives me budget time over several months.

OK, I still cannot figure out how one would modify a registry when doing a clean install from a bootable USB ISO - where is the registry and if it exists at a point before the compatibility check is performed, how does one modify it before that happens??

Anyhow, I used the replace the source/install. file in the win 10 ISO with the install.wim file in the win 11 ISO method and it worked (on a PC w/o TPM or Secure Boot). The only odd thing I noticed is that if you try to create a new MS account during the installation procedure, it sends a code number to the email address you specify in the account setup (that you have to enter b/f continuing with the install). So, how do you access that code number if the only computer you have is being used for the install?

As I said before, there is a simple way to clean install W11 on pc without TPM if you have HyperV.

1) Set HyperV to emulate TPM.

2) install W11 from iso in VM

3) Boot from Macrium Reflext USB Rescue Drive

4) attach VHDX created in Step 2 by clicking on command prompt and using diskpart.

5) exit command prompt and clone vhdx to internal hard drive.
