Solved Resize C: D: partitions that have been encrypted with Bitlocker


Chkdsk /scan reported corruption.


Consider running chkdsk switches on all drives.

The syntax is: chkdsk /r /v C: or chkdsk /r /v D: or chkdsk /r /v E: etc.



Please open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:

chkdsk /r /v

The chkdsk switches can take significant time and for the windows drive it's best to run overnight.

The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another

Type: Y

Reboot


Repeat the above commands as needed.

This is where I could resize partitions while the drive is encrypted.

I never thought to look at Storage Spaces. Must try that next time I need to do anything similar.

Is it possible to move and resize my C and D partitions, while they're encrypted? Or would I need to turn off the Bitlocker encryption to decrypt the partitions, move and resize them and then encrypt them again?
I did this very thing only a few days ago on my HP laptop. And, I disabled BitLocker and decrypted the partitions BEFORE resizing and moving.

After that, I re-enabled BitLocker and redid the encryption -- and it only took a few minutes, but this laptop had a fast Ryzen processor and an NVMe SSD -- so I would expect it to be fast.

Also, it will generate a new BitLocker key when you recrypt it, so be sure to export the new key so you have a backup of it.
