Hi,

This is not about reverting from New Outlook app to the old "classic" one. I know how to do that and already have. Those tutorials are all over the web:

My problem is I have been using the web version of outlook.live mail (whatever that is called) NOT the apps, but I accidentally installed the new app and then reverted to classic app on my win 11 Professional laptop while trying to find the settings to export my accounts to pst files so I can migrate to a new mail service. BUT, Somehow in the process of my carelessley clicking things, the outlook app appears to have "embedded" itself permanently into my firefox browser on the laptop and now it will require activation in 5 days (Tues Oct 14th) "to keep using my outlook email without interrruption!" So it appears they're forcing me to pay now unless this is just a spurious dialog I can ignore or I can somehow undo all this mess and get back to the regular web version! It's even taken over my firefox on win 7 desktop! Is there a registry edit I can do etc...

Sorry for the timing on this, but I need to have Outlook forwarding my mail to the new service until I get it all setup - probably a lot more time. Guess I could've planned this out better.

Also what are some decent quality pst to mbox converters out there?

Thanks!

Is it a Firefox extension?
In which case, it can be removed.

Nope. Good idea though! In other words, since I accidentally installed or setup already installed outlook app(s) on my system, that forced the webmail to also "upgrade" its UI including themes and well, the entire look of thing was updated to look like the Outlook apps.

Perhaps it would be worth logging in online from somebody else's computer just to check whether the change is limited to your computers or affects all means of accessing the email account.
This test should guide you about where to look for whatever setting has changed.

Best of luck,
Denis

That sounds confusing. I use both. The app on the computer (the one that appears on the start menu) and login online as well (although it does keep pestering me to use a passkey instead of my password). Or do you mean the Outlook app that downloads your email?

Unfortunately, I do not have access to someone else's pc right now, but regardless, I fairly sure this is not my system and any pc I login to, outlook will recognize my account and force the use of the new? UI.

Really it would help if anyone knows if the activation message is spurious. In other words is there an ongoing free version use of Outlook apps and webmail without a subscription key? I should search microsoft KB etc... I mean the webmail was free untill I started messing with the stupid apps to get my .pst files and therefore forced by one of the apps to select 5 day free trial to download them. Maybe when tuesday comes, it'll allow me to keep working with the classic app and webmail for free though with limitations which I don't necessarily care about since I'm migrating.

I've been using outlook.live.com for ages, NO apps untill I realized I can't download pst files from there, I have to use the apps for that. So I did and now my Oulook.live.com UI looks different since using the apps. My concern is if I don't purchase a license I won't have access to my mail even at Outlook.live.com not just in the apps. Does that make more sense?

I think you should create a new thread to ask that specific question.
Perhaps the title could usefully be something like, "Unactivated Outlook app has taken over my email web interface and I cannot get out of it"
Include the explanations you wrote about:-
I accidentally installed the new app and then reverted to classic app ... while trying to ... migrate to a new mail service

and mention that your browser is Firefox and that the app is not a browser extension. Oh, and state that you are talking about the Outlook app not MSOffice Outlook.

And please do come back here to post a link to your new question thread.
Whilst I won't be able to help [and therefore will not post in it], I'd like to be able to follow what happens.

Best of luck,
Denis

Sorry I don't quite understand. What are pst files? I use the webmail and attach and download all sorts from it. Eg attached photos can just be saved to computer.

But it sounds like you need something to be able to migrate to a new email service. Could you not just remove the apps and use the webmail to download whatever it is you want?

What are pst files?
Hazel,

They are local files that, for example, the Outlook app saves email, calendar, contacts, ... in.
They are also what my MSOffice Outlook 2007 application saves email, calendar, contacts, ... in.

There are some conversion utilities to help with the transition to other file formats [for the new service the OP will be using]. I've seen some mentioned but have never used any. I've been using pst files in MSOffice Outlook since it first appeared [in 1995?]?

All the best,
Denis

Thanks. I'm with you now. Have downloaded them myself before :-) .pst. Even if it's not possible to save them, presumably migrating to a new email would take everything with it anyway?

I can save the pst files just fine, but only from the Outlook apps, currently only using classic app as I stated previously. Pst files and mail forwarding is my means of Migrating. I'm not using some separate migration software. I already converted the pst files to mbox since my new mail provider can't import pst files. So, no, migrating to a a new email will not take everything with it. [because I'm not using migration software just pst files]

I'm either going to just temporarily pay for a license or wait and see if the webmail (outlook.live.com) continues to function as it was for free, whilst the apps or access through the apps will be blocked because of the 5 day free trial i selected so I could get pst files - whew!

"I even installed officeSetup.exe at one point which I removed"
- You installed then uninstalled MSOffice?
or
- You downloaded the installation file but aborted installation before finishing it?
I think it will be worth amending/adding to the words you used in your new thread because the exact history might be significant [for all I know, not being a user of the apps concerned].
