My Modular EVGA PSU has a single 8 pin to 16 pin cable. Is this adequate power for my 08G-P5-3767-KL or would it prefer 2 8x8 pin cables?

Hey, You could get away with it, But i'd always run two cables instead for sure if you can.

I had to ask myself: what's a 16 pin cable?

Answer: it's a single cable with two 6+2 pin plugs on it.

It's recommended to use separate cables for each of the two 8 pin PCI-E power connectors on the card.

However, the card is rated for a maximum power draw of 220W. A single 8 pin PCI-E power connection is spec'd to provide 150W. The PCI-E slot gives 75W. The card, then, is close to the limit of what could be provided with a single 8 pin PCI-E auxiliary connector.

Translation: a single cable with two 6+2 plugs should be OK.

Because I'm compulsive, I'd use two cables. Preferably ones with a single 6+2 plug each, for neatness.

Sorry, I don't follow. This is a list of the cables included with the PSU:

If I understand this correctly, there are two cables with a single 6+2 plug at the GPU end, and two more with two 6+2 plugs.
I suggest using the two single ones.

As I thought. By "that cable is only for a card with 3-slots", do you mean a card with 3 PCI-E sockets? Even for those, a cable per connection is recommended, if not strictly necessary. Example: MSI 3080. The card draws up to 390W, which is a bit more than two 8 pin PCI-E cables plus the motherboard can provide (375W).

I've run a regular 3080 off of a single cable with two 6+2 plugs without trouble, but I reverted to the maker's recommendation of two cables, like in your illustration. I question the "very important" thing. Maybe I was lucky that the cable didn't burst into flames, or fry the PSU port.

Some newer high-power cards use a new PCI-E 5 power connector with 16 pins. (Or a 12 pin PerFE cable, which lacks what I suppose are 4 data pins.)

Just follow the picture guide in post #6
In other words... "try" to run a minimum of a single cable from the PSU to "each" connector on the vid card.


The one in the BLUE box is the best because as well as supplying sufficient wattage, it also "looks" the best.
