Strangely, and for the first time ever, Windows automatically offered to translate for me.

4GB, 8GB, 12GB none of that will matter. Windows 12 will require TPM3.0 and an AI enabled processor.
So you will need to buy ANOTHER system to replace your aging 2023 system that can't be upgraded from Windows 11 or 10 anyway.
Microsoft is a marketing firm now and not a software development house.

Me, I'm stuck on Windows 10 because my system only has TPM1.2 and an unsupported CPU.
I have a 3.7GHz 4core/8thread XEON with 128GB of main memory but that is not good enough for Windows 11 it appears.

If I need to upgrade my hardware some day it will run Linux and maybe I'll do Windows XX in VirtualBox or whatever.
Rufus can bypass all Windows 11 hardware requirements. I suspect he will do the same for Windows 12.
My oldest computer is Intel Core i5 Gen 4, no TPM. Windows 11 works just as good as Windows 10 did.

You obviously haven't seen a Linux system in the last 20 years or so. A graphical interface, just like Windows is the norm these days.
Yes, there still are terminal windows to do commands in Linux. Just like there is CommandWindow and PowerShell in windows, too.
But I can use a Linux system all day without ever launching a command shell terminal window.
Browsers (Firefox), email (Thunderbird), spreadsheets/word docs/presentations (LibreOffice) all work the same on Linux as they do on Windows.
You're very mistaken. I have used Linux via USB/DVD trying to convince myself to install it on my first gen Windows 7 build to replace Windows 7 being "deprecated" and so many applications no longer supporting it.

Just recently one of the Linux bistros received a NEW major feature: approximate time remaining when copying files! 🤦‍♂️

I paid about £350 for my current laptop. If it won't run Windows 12 I can buy a new laptop for less than many will spend upgrading their desktops to meet the new requirements.
Your laptop sounds sketchy (don't tell me how you got it) lol. A new Chromebook costs about that.

To summarize:

  • Windows 11 23H2 Moment 5 Update (Nickel) will be released in February / March
  • Windows 11 24H1 , as Dell wrote it, does not exist.
  • Windows 11 24H2 (Germanium) will then appear as a new Windows 11 version in autumn 2024
  • Windows 12 is still “a long way off”. This will not exist before autumn 2025. Of course, in advance in the insider versions.
Interesting spin. I doubt the credibility or the source of information from the blogger. W12 is arriving in 2024 not 2025.

W12 or whatever it will be called will be available for general testing via insider builds / whatever at least 1 year before EOL of W11 simply because manufacturers etc have to get their stuff working hardware wise plus any 3rd party software suppliers also have to test their stuff too.

Cloud providers also need to be able to test their Windows VDI's to their clients and businesses wil need time to adjust -- many are still on W10. It seems even relatively small businesses are making more use of cloud providers for their IT services rather than having their own servers and doing it in house - this trend is likely to continue.

If Windows requires totally new hardware like a NPU rather than faster CPU's / GPU's etc then it can hardly be called W11 any more by any stretch of the imagination especially as it's obvious for the A.I functionality and the NPU integration the base OS will have to be hugely re-written.

Cheers

Would that Linux Distro be Mint 21.3? I'm getting it now.

What would be glorious is if they said, okay, if you don't meet the requirements then you can turn off the AI. Which is going to happen anyway, or is everyone using Bing, Edge, and the Widgets right now? It's actually amazing how much crepe one must turn off to turn Windows 'on'.

Smartphones are taking over.
Isn't that true!

And along the lines of this thread, I can run Copilot on my SmartPhone, i.e. AI can run on very modest hardware.

I can also run Copilot on my laptop with run of the mill hardware and you can see my AI generated pictures in my postings #46, #52 earlier on in this thread, very, very passable pictures!

I have a big one, but it won't replace a laptop! My laptop is 14" and my phone is 6.5". The phone is no good for serious browsing, even when turned sideways. My ASUA Transformer has a detachable keyboard but it's too annoying in tablet mode. I still nedd a decent keyboard.

Yes but not

since the direction of the shadows do not all match.

All the best,
Denis
? To my non-photographer eyes, the shadows in both pictures do line up as coming from a NW light source.

Copilot does make mistakes, though. I had it draw a chessboard with so called algebraic notation and it erroneously drew the numbers on the horizontal axis but described them as being on the vertical axis, as they should be. In chat, I repeatedly asked Copilot to resolve the internal discrepancy, but it did not do it. However, the next day, Copilot drew and described correctly, LOL

On that next day, Copilot greeted me with 'glad to see you again, I'm eager to learn from you' LOOOL

Anyway, it is very well possible to train Copilot (y)

Smartphones are taking over.

I know what you mean but I'd disagree.

It's like saying frozen food/eating is taking over home cooking. Yes. But since frozen food/eating out isn't home cooking, but simply eating alternatives, it's not related. Which is to say that frozen foods/eating out will not ultimately 'take over' say... making spaghetti.

Smartphones, to me, are a great portable computer device but lousy portable computers. Tablets have their weaknesses too. Smartphones are for lazy people who don't want to learn how to type and this means their uses are ultimately limited.

I stopped using Copilot. To say it makes mistakes is a gross understatement. So far in my experience, it's not possible to train it. It's becoming worse by the week. I use Bard now for real time info. It makes a lot of mistakes too, but it's not as woke as Bing and it doesn't cut you off for no reason either.
