From the symptoms I guess the disk health is much lower than 95%. Test it and replace ASAP.

Hard Disk Sentinel and Crystal Mark measured this computer at 87, call it "perfect" and say so action is necessary. The problem computer I checked with Crystal Mark and it was similar, I just can't remember what the number was. I'm running another install using the same ISO. I ran Winhance on the problem computer and ticked 2-3 hundred changes to default. I can get into Safe Mode with msconfig but checkdisk refuses to check the disk. I backed up the files and folders before I started.

If you mean 87% disk health, it is far from "perfect". The disk is faulty, that's why Check Disk and other disk utilities fail. Backup your data and replace it "yesterday". That's a Greek expression ("do that yesterday" or "I want that yesterday") meaning you should have already done it, it is very urgent.

It's also means it's far from faulty as well! If you're getting an 87% health figure, the disk "should" work fine. For HDD that simply means there are some reallocated sectors, not something that is all that unusual. For SDD that would indicate that it's only used 13% of it's theoretical lifespan of writes. Since an SSD almost always outlasts the theoretical write number, that's hardly a cause for concern at present.

I ran the original us-uk ISO created by MS Media Creation Tool. The Rufus customization's did not pop up (I assume maybe they were already added). I got the Save files and apps during installation. The result seems much better than the other installations; I've done one on a desktop and one on the problem laptop with the en-uk language default. Check disk does not on the problem laptop or the desktop. Once the us-uk version of Windows 11 is installed, you can toggle between en-uk and en-us. One big problem besides the check disk is the sound devices are broken on both computers. The sounds troubleshooter didn't fix it. Uninstalling them in Device Manager, then checking for hardware changes (and rebooting) did not fix the sound. The little speaker icon is X'd out; there is no sound. The HP website didn't help much for drivers (I'll go back again). The DELL desktop has the same issue so hopefully the DELL website will be better. Thanks for the input on all these issues! Is there a place that has Windows 11 drivers for old sound devices?

CORRECTION: After a reboot the sound on the DELL Desktop came back. And, check disk starts but does actually check the sectors on the disk.

Use Speccy or Aida64 to determine exactly which sound card model you have and then Google that to find proper drivers or post here a screenshot to help you find them.

MS Media Creation Tool and Rufus are 2 totally distinctly different processes for creating a boot installation USB drive, neither are included in, nor have anything to do with, the other

MS MCT is created from the Microsoft web site programs

Rufus is separate software to be downloaded

@idgat . . . They are separate but the laptop I was upgrading was en-uk hard-wired default for that machine. When I tried to use Rufus with en-us or en-international the installation would not let me save "files and apps". The solution (in my mind) was to let the MS Media Creation Tool create an ISO that would allow me to save "files and apps". Then, let Rufus recreate that ISO in my computer to a USB Rufus ISO with the necessary customization's boxes. Then, double-click on set-up in the Rufus ISO for it to run. That's how I got to save my files and apps and beat the hardware requirement.

In older Rufus versions the settings to bypass compatibility check where visible upon loading. In latest versions you see nothing relevant when loading Rufus, unless you choose a Windows 11 ISO and click to start the process. At this point Rufus detects it is a Windows 11 ISO and displays a list of check boxes to bypass compatibility check before creating the USB. This is a little confusing for users of the older versions that expected to see the options at loading. When I first used one of the newer versions I thought they removed these options because probably Microsoft made them do it and was disappointed. I was about to use an older version of Rufus until I Googled about it and discovered that the options appear after you click to begin.

Reminder: To install Windows 11 24H2 or higher you need Rufus 4.6 or newer. Older versions cannot bypass compatibility check because the method changed from earlier Windows 11 versions.

I used Rufus 4.6 to load onto my old HP ENVY desktop, seamless install and it bypassed all the pesky details like TPM2, Microsoft account, etc.

After rounding up all the drivers for the ancient hardware, all is well.

My main PC is 3rd generation Intel Core-i7 3770 (see 2nd system specs) running Windows 11 25H2. Is your Envy older than that? As for the drivers, any 64-bit drivers should work on Windows 11, even Vista 64-bit drivers. The exception is Intel graphics drivers for Windows 7 which are locked to work only on Windows 7 and fail when trying to install on newer versions. For some old Intel graphics cards there are third-party hacked Intel versions that remove Intel's compatibility check and install on Windows 8, 10 64-bit and 11. I use one of those for my test laptop (see 1st system specs).

The work around for check disk is to use O&O Defrag; in Start there is a "check disk" option. For the old drivers for the old computer, a thorough defrag of the hard drive, device manager, and some patience worked for the three computers I upgraded.

Does anyone have a safe way to debloat Windows 11? Win11Debloat is a script that runs on Power Shell. Has anyone tried it with a machine that is hardware deficient? Thanks in advance.

Manually, so personal choice is selective. Not some random pre-determined option over which the user has no control .... and then consequently when it all goes pear-shaped, hasn't got a clue where/why/how something went wrong!!! (EDIT And also wonder why useless piece of bloatware is still there !!)

RevoUninstaller (freeware version is adequate). Afrter the uninstall process, no reboot, and use the Advanced option to clear leftover files/folders/registry entries

Also freeware Geek Uninstaller

Steps ...
- image first
- start uninstall options
- periodic (re)image (personal choice, depending on level of paranoia or confidence)
- continue uninstalls

Run built-in Disk Clean up (2 x, once for general, once for "Clean up system files". Both cases, just tick every box)

Optional. Run 3rd party clean up (I sometimes use the freeware versions of Wise Disk Cleaner and/or Glary Utilities. Both set to the default options)

Then if I'm feeling insecure (and/or curious)
- DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
then
- sfc /scannow

Remove tin-foil hat, and happy computing ... I hope

I went ahead and ran the default Win11DeBloat script in Windows Powershell (see attached text file). I ran Glary Utilities afterwards to clean up and it ran a check on the disk like check disk. So far, I'm happy with the results. I'm still using Firefox as my browser. You can see the 91 items that were deleted. I use Revo Uninstaller as well (just not this time). Obviously a proprietary branded Windows installation, given the freeware/clickware/demoware games (e.g. CandyCrush, et al). But I don't see any of the proprietary system "management" software being removed, software that more than often just mimics/duplicates what Windows already does, and/or is just totally unnecessary

I used Winhance, on an earlier installation; I ticked the "everything to "recommendation" on the laptop and it changed over 300 settings which broke the installation. After that, I was prompted to use the Repair Download from/by Updates. Don't even remember how I got out of that jam. Last night, I ran the fourth installation on a DELL laptop. Everything checked out, 64-bits, MBR BIOS, and the drive was cleaned and defragmented. The installation went to 93% and prepared to reboot the computer. Next thing I saw was an error message that there was a "disk "read" error; press ctrl, alt, del to restart". I followed the instruction but the computer would not reboot. At that point I knew I was in a world of shyte. That is where I find myself this morning. The DELL Latitude 6340's MBR BIOS was a "Legacy" so I assumed it was a MBR. Is that correct? Can Winhance safely remove bloatware?

I completely agree 100%! I can barely write a simple post here, read an online article, or get any work done. This computer after installing Windows 11 is so slow and unresponsive that it eats up my time and my energy. If there is a way to speed up this computer I will try it.
