Rufus 4.14 (2026.04.30)

Windows User Experience improvements:
- Add a Silent installation option, that automatically, and WITHOUT PROMPT, installs Windows on the first detected disk

You have selected to use the "silent" Windows installation option.

This is an advanced option, reserved for people who want to create media that does not prompt the user during Windows installation and therefore UNCONDITIONALLY ERASES the first detected disk on the target system.

If you are not careful, using this option can result in IRREVERSIBLE DATA LOSS!

If this is not what you want, please select 'No' to go back and uncheck the option.

Otherwise, if you select 'Yes', you agree that the whole responsibility for any data loss will be entirely with YOU.

I tested this in a virtual machine. If a USB drive is created in Rufus with this option enabled, the "Select location to install Windows 11" screen does not appear during setup. Instead, the installer automatically wipes Disk 0 and installs the OS on it.

On the other hand Ventoy (Linux based.) Boots from any system and then boots from any .iso that it could find on that stick. Rufus is more MS minded. Wil you give you options that Ventoy does not. I have 64GB USB stick which contains multiple Windows and Linux .iso distributions. While Rufus formats this 64Gb stick to contain 1 OS. (Max. 1Gb) Both have their purposes. But I don't have 10 sticks lying arround which contains 1 OS. Your choice.

Unless you write the ISO file sector-by-sector (DD mode) and dedicate the whole USB flash drive to it, you can copy other data to the disk after you create it with Rufus. In fact I have created a USB flash drive to install Windows 11 and I added drivers, Office installer and some more applications and games. Ventoy lets you boot from many ISOs on the same disk, but as mentioned before doesn't have all the Rufus compatibility check bypass options.

v4.14 | Silent installation fails at 75%

For now, the Rufus author has devised a test version to see if it's working. If you wish to try it out yourself you can get it from here on GitHub thread discussing the issue. You can also avoid using the silent installation feature as a temporary workaround.

The "SILENTLY erase disk and install Windows..." option is grayed out if the required settings haven’t been selected.

Rufus' "SILENTLY erase disk and install Windows..." option worked for me in a virtual machine (Hyper-V).

However, the problem with silent installation is that not all users have Windows installed on Disk 0.

A silent installation automatically installs Windows on the first detected disk, without any prompts.

As pbatard mentioned in the GitHub thread:

The Silent option is really devised for people who make sure to disconnect all disks except the target one before install.

Fail at 75% is usually due to some hardware incompatibility. This is because Setup tries to install drivers for some device and cannot find the proper driver in the database. To get around this, you can disable all non-essential for the installation devices, such as sound, card reader, Bluetooth, LAN/Wi-Fi (you can enable it again after installation). From my own experience, usually the upgrade fails at 75% when trying to upgrade an unsupported computer from one version to another. The clean installation has more chances to succeed.

I'll wait for a final non-test 4.15 version instead; skipping the 4.14 release for now

If you have two or more disks silent installation is dangerous. You can accidentally delete the wrong drive and lose data. I prefer the interactive installation so I see exactly what is happening.

I just used 4.14 on a new win11 install and it performed flawlessly -created my local logon and silenced a bunch of stuff. A HUGE asset. They should charge. (download latest 25H2 iso - it will save a lot of time - fully updated.

It created a USB stick with 2 partitions - I booted to the second which I think is for UEFI systems. Super easy install!!!!

I just downloaded the latest beta and made a usb. Chose to add t023 boot files. After running one of Garlin's scripts to check boot media, the RUFUS-BOOT partition of the usb had the MS Corp UEFI CA 2011 cert. Checc screen shot that show partial results:

Yes! Besides, using Rufus and checking most things results in a rather quick install - very little of the usual MS "wait a moment" or whatever.

A follow-up on my previous post #50. I did make a windows 11 usb from a windows 11 iso, 25H2-8653. The usb was GPT and rufus made a 1 mb FAT partition that's the RUFUS_BOOT partition that load the ntfs driver and the rest of the usb was NTFS. As in post #50, I applied the CA 2023 certs, but the RUFUS_BOOT bootloader has the Microsoft Corporation UEFI CA 2011 certs.

I then tried to test boot the usb stick, but it failed stating a secure boot violation on a very new HP laptop. I believe it tried to boot initially from the FAT partition. I have not revoked any of the old CA 2011 certs. Version 4.14 works fine, so I'm scrapping that beta.

If I am right, latest Rufus versions allow you to specify certificate version, 2011 or 2023. Create it again with 2023 so you can boot it.

It does offer to install the Windows UEFI CA 2023 certificate. My usbs done with version 4.14 worked fine on all my systems, including a new HP laptop. The issue I had was with the new beta version that I was testing.. Here is the partial screenshot of running one of @garlin's Check_UEFI scripts:

This means you haven't revoked the 2011 certificates, so you can boot both old and new UEFI bootable media. However you are exposed to old Secure Boot malware. As long as you are careful what you do online and you scan all shared USB flash drives for viruses you should not have a problem, apart from the annoying warning. Once you are 100% sure you no longer need to boot older UEFI devices, you can revoke 2011 certificates to get rid of the warning.
