Samsung Brings AirDrop Support to Quick Share with Galaxy S26 Series

 Samsung Newsroom:

Samsung is introducing AirDrop support to the Galaxy S26 series, making it easier for users to share content between devices using Quick Share.

The feature will begin rolling out from March 231, starting in Korea and expanding to more regions including Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, Latin America, North America, Southeast Asia, and Taiwan. AirDrop support will initially be available on the Galaxy S26 series, with expansion to additional devices to be announced at a later date.

I wonder why its only enabled for the newer samsung and pixel 9 and 10. Seems to be more of a software thing then hardware.

Perhaps money.

In any case, glad to see this coming

It's probably more like "this is going to be a pain, let's give it to people who shell out money for new phones first, but we'll add others later." It's one of those things where Apple had to comply with an EU thing, so they did the bare-minimum-but-not-quite-the-same dances, like when they didn't open up iMessage but adopted RCS. In this case, it's the whole Apple Wireless Direct Link versus WiFi Aware (Neighbor Awareness Networking) thing.

I was so happy when Apple was made to switch to usb c and to adopt RCS. Its really only an american thing, but still texting became so much better because of it.

Happy to see airdrop also coming to android. Less walls between platforms is good.

Unless you're a doofus like me and blocked the RCS domains with your DNS filter. Oopsie poopsie.
