A neat little trick with SSD's. If you have a valid clone and you want the fastest speed? Use the secure erase function to reset your SSD back to factory default. JUST be sure that you have a valid clone BEFORE attempting this! In the performance testing you should notice a difference in the speeds.
Yes, that and Safe erase, writes zeros to whole disk which skips a step in writing as it doesn't have to erase data just prior. Only problem is that it adds to total writes by disks capacity. Don't quote me but I believe that MR does same thing during disk restore.
Another benefit is that NVME drives are free to write in most convenient places thru all 4 channels at same time and so speed up read afterwards.
Actually, most benefit of SSDs is fast seek time and 4k (or smaller) reads and writes as that's the size windows uses most.
1649617478292.png
HDD on left, 970 Evo Plus on right. Large file or a lot of continuous reads and writes (first line) is least important and only at some conditions when that actually happens. Yet manufacturers quote those as they look most impressive.
Another "problem" is that write speed depend on source it writes from. It's fastest straight from RAM and slowest from slow HDDS and external disks.
For instance, if I was to write 1GB file from that HDD to NVME it would write at 129.23 at most and that's far cry from possible 3206.04. Same difference with smaller files.

I agree. The only place you will actually see a difference is in transfer speeds between drives. I saw a transfer speed between 2 980 peak at 1GB but for half a second.

Bottleneck is not a new term. You can only go as fast as your slowest component, of course depends what your doing.

Samsung Magician has been updated to v7.1.1.820 via the internal updater, but there are already problems being reported on the Samsung forum.

I don't know whether it affects everyone.

Yeah, it’s a junk update, hangs up on detecting disks. Back to 7.0 and all is well

Updated CPU Cooler in my I7 10700 Desktop, not the cooler i actually wanted to install, but after failing to install for first time a Be Quiet Pure Rock 2 black, ended up with Arctic Freezer 7 X For my LGA 1200 Chip, Samsung Nvme M.2 running a little warmer now, but hopefully its just ambient temp being higher and nothing actually wrong.

Got up to 60C for the Nvme M.2 yesterday

Then cooled down slowly rest of the evening

Guess i'll keep eye on it and determine what is best

SM has never borked my drives with a firmware update. This latest version acted strange right after it installed but after a reboot it behaves normally.

Samsung driver and Magician are waste of time in my opinion, the drive function better without both Samsung NVMe driver and Samsung Magician 7 but it may be a different scenario for others depending on the hardware in their PCs/Laptops.
With SM 7 and Samsung NVMe driver:

I'll have to try that. With 960 evo as system drive it worked better with Samsung driver 3.3. Now I have both installed with 970 evo plus being OS drive.
