Samsung One UI 8.5 Official Rollout Starts May 6, 2026

Samsung is expanding the One UI 8.5 rollout to more devices, bringing the latest Galaxy AI features across the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem. The update focuses on enhancing communication and creative experiences on Galaxy mobile phones and tablets, including the Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy S25 FE, Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy S24 FE, Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7, Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6, Galaxy Tab S11 series and Galaxy Tab S10 series.

One UI 8.5 will begin rolling out in Korea starting May 6 with additional regions to follow.

If anyone noticed a teeny circle when you TAP the screen, you can disable that in Developer Tools "Input" section.

Not really UI8.5 related but youtube has recentiy added a good update to youtube shorts on androids (at least?).

Call this menu from the three dots icon on top right and you can now select "Clear Screen" which hides the annoying overlays that often obscured details (especially if text based).

You can revert by clicking on double arrow on bottom right.

Generally, I find most new "features" rather "meh" but this is rare - it is useful.

You can temporarily remove the overlay by pressing and holding the screen but if you hold it too long, any video is shown at double speed. Regrettably, there does not seem to be a way yo slow down videos - many are too fast.

I thought I had escaped the battery bug on UI8.5 but suddenly I found my Nova Launcher which I used was consuming up to 30% of my battery in a day. Looking back, this had been an issue for a few days. I am guessing it was due to a recent Nova update.

One of the prime causes of the battery drain from UI8.5 was a corrupted cache in the default One UI Home Launcher and you cleared the cache and it was ok.

I tried the same with the Nova Launcher but it did not help.

I then tried the nuclear option and uninstalled Nova Launcher reverting to One UI Home Launcher, and that seems to have done the trick.

I always preferred Nova as it was more configurable than One UI, but to be fair One UI is more configurable than it used to be, so I have the Home screens pretty much as before.

I found they have introduced a lock Home Screen at some point which locks icons in position and you cannot update Home screens without changing lock position. This was probably the primary reason I used Nova originally as it had this feature.

The only thing I do not like about One UI is when in the app tray, you have to scroll up and down to get to app you want. Nova allowed you to swipe page left/right which is quicker as it is only 3 or 4 swipes at most.

Anyway, if you suddenly get a bigger drain all of a sudden on an app, it is worth trying to clear the apps cache first, then I suppose it is worth trying uninstall/install next.

If you 'Sort' by Custom order, you can scroll left and right...,
if you 'Sort' by Alphabetical order, it's up and down.

I saw that too with this update. I have the clock app in a group on my home screen and whenever I open that group, I can see the dial spin around. It was funny to see that the first time. :oops:
