Sandboxie is Dead for Me (Need an Alternative)

According to the support I've received from the Sandboxie forums, the current version is incompatible with the latest version of Edge (with no hope in sight). It blocks all Edge preferences (like the search engine, password manager, menu button placements, etc.). If anyone finds a fix, I'm all ears (as I do the love the program and have been using it for over a decade).

In the meantime, I need a similar alternative that will work with the latest version of Edge (which has to be my default browser). I only use Chrome and Firefox as backup alts.

Can anyone recommend a similar program? I don't want to use virtual machine options are anything beyond just a simple solution of isolating my browser and clearing all the files it collects (like cookies, history, etc.) when it closes each time. Just like Sandboxie does.

Anyone know what that might be?

Errr...um.... forgive me if your "I don't want to use VM options ..." excludes Windows Sandbox, but why not use that? I've got a script that sets mine up just the way I want it, and it takes under a minute to get going. Everything cleaned up upon close.
HTH, and again forgive me if I'm swimming against the tide.

Yes, what you are experiencing now is an incompatibility issue between Sandboxie and Edge (all Chromium based browsers), caused by a recent Edge update. But I can assure you, that very soon there will be a new Sandboxie version released that will fix this issue. You just have to be patient. For now, you can use Firefox under Sandboxie. You said you use Firefox, for now run it sandboxed. Firefox and SBIE are always working perfectly. Since 2008, perhaps once compatibility has been broken between the two programs, no more than twice (for me). I ll post here to let you know when the new version of SBIE is released that fixes the Chromium issue.

I hope so, because I love Sandboxie and want to keep using it. Is there anywhere I can actively track this progress or get updates (besides just waiting for Sandboxie to pull down a new version)?

You can follow the process here:

Or here:

By the way, as far as I can tell, this compatibility issue is not having an effect on (quoting you) "clearing all the files it collects (like cookies, history, etc.) when it closes each time." So, I think, if you like Edge, you still can use it under SBIE as is for now. And soon, all that is broken will be fix.
