I am having trouble with an SD Card, it says 16GB on the card itself but when I put it in the computer it says 247MB. I have tried formatting it but still no joy. Does anyone know what might be happening here?

Where did you get it? Have you possibly bought a fake one? Plenty of them for sale on certain online retailers

It was originally in a music player device where songs were on the SD card and it would be updated though the internet to update the playlist. That device is no longer in use so I wish to use the card for other things, I want to be able to store photo's on it.

There have been a host of fake SD cards over the years where a cheap low capacity card was labeled as a much larger card. They faked the ID block on the card so it would present itself as the larger card, but when you actually tried to use the capacity, the files would be corrupted by writing over the existing files.

If it provided good service in a music player, that's probably not it. It isn't a new card.

On the other hand, Amazon lists any number of 16GB SD cards for 8USD. Throwing the card away wouldn't be a tragic loss. Even in the UK, I hope.

It may have worked fine for a handful of MP3 files but not when you tried to load it to full capacity. Hard to say what's going on from the limited information we've received so far. In any case, this is just one possibility, I didn't say it was the only possibility.

SD card is "New Volume E" on the screesnshot.
Not a problem if I have to discard the SD card, but didn't expect this issue. If its not a simple fix or if it cannot be fixed I'll purchase a new card.

From disk management:
- Right click on E: -> Delete Volume
- Right click on 13.91GB partition -> Delete volune
- Right click again -> Create new simple volume, click next....
->size of partition, click next->select FS, select NTFS->Drive letter, it would be E: -> Format (quick)
This will give you an empty E: drive with full capacity

I forget. Does that give an unformatted partition?

16GB can be easily formatted as NTFS or FAT32. I'd choose NTFS.

I forget. Does that give an unformatted partition?

16GB can be easily formatted as NTFS or FAT32. I'd choose NTFS.
It will make the whole thing unallocated, then you have to create a simple volume,
on next screen ->size of partition, click next->select FS, select NTFS->Drive letter, it would be E: -> Format (quick)
