You mean this? Even the mouse has progressed. I recall back then with an engineering firm designing things like bridges and roads did use a 3-button mouse, middle was for locking a point before starting a new line.Find the file on your computer (see in Documents, Pictures, Download etc). Click on it and press CTRL+C (copy). Open your external drive and target folder, press CTRL+V (paste). That's it. You can also right-click on the file (press the right mouse button) to see a list. Select Copy to mark the file for copy. Go at target folder, right-click in a white space between the icons she select Paste from the list to complete the copy process. I know it is very simple. Imagine my frustration in Windows 95 when this method first appeared when there wasn't the familiar File Manager utility from Windows 3.1 and I could not guess how to copy files! I used the command prompt to copy files with DOS! Been there done that.
Today's mouse has a middle button, the wheel. You can configure pressing the wheel to do some custom action. The default action is to go in "scroll mode" and scroll the whole screen rather than 3-4 lines at a time. So today's mice are three-button mice too. Gotcha! You mean this?
