Serious Memory problem after Windows 11 24h2 update

Hello, I didn't know this morning that my perfectly working PC would be rendered completetely unusable by the 24h2 update. As you can see by attached screenshots (

) the OS seems to have developed some sort of memory leak right after update, that somehow sees all of my 32 gb of ram "consumed" up to 100% within 20/40 minutes of boot. Not by a specific process, but rather, apparently, unending errors of the Memory Compress function of windows.

things I tried:

  • Update all drivers and bios
  • Antivirus and antimalware, nothing found
  • Remove expo profile from ram
  • Update firmware of all SSD drives
  • Clean boot
  • Terminate almost every process right after the problem develops
  • Enable /disable memory compression from powershell (thus being rewarded by a bsod instead of slowdown.)
The problem persists until reboot. What else can I do try short of reinstall?

  • AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D 12-Core Processor
  • Microsoft Windows 11 Home Versione 10.0.26100 build 26100
  • Motherboard PRIME X670-P
  • 32,0 GB Kingston FURY Beast DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MT/s DDR5 KF560C36BBEK2-32

You appear to be a more than competent PC user, going by your post.
So I assume you made a system image before you updated to a major build?

I am, despite past lessons hardly learned, not that wise.

Luckily, however, after rebooting yet another time things appear to be stable now, to the point that I started reenabling some services and the memory leak hasn't occured yet. I've been gaming for 40 minutes.
Judging by the current OS config, the problem MIGHT have come from the various Asus, AMD or Logitech services that are still disabled. Fingers crossed and I'll post further discoveries, should they eventually present themselves.

Do you have system image software and a secondary or external drive to save an image to?

Hasleo backup (Free) is great. There are others, like Macrium Effect.

I made a quick user guide for Hasleo if you’re interested in trying it.

This is very suspicious, it looks like some malware is draining your memory. I would download Superantispyware and do a full system scan. Because some malwares detect the scanner and can stop it, I would first update the spyware signatures and then restart in Safe Mode to do the scan. Do a full system scan and remove all findings. If it finds too many, over 500 results say, I would also scan with a second program such as Malwarebytes Antimalware. In very severe cases, that the memory is drained even after removing malware, I would backup all data and format and do a clean installation. Let's hope you can solve it with Superantispyware alone.

wtf ! 😖 ..........this problem could be another reason ( together with all other reasons !) for waiting with this tricky upgrade , until MS has it all figured out again..........

It must be some malware draining the memory. See my earlier post.
