setting up new PC - why so many Dell components?

I've used Windows 11 since it was introduced on Oct 5, 2021. For what I do, Windows 11 has been rock solid.

I too have found it to be very stable. I do get annoyed frequently by little things, but then I have to check myself, realizing that every OS out there has some issues. Modern OSes are just so complex because they try to do so many different things. Anytime you have literally millions of lines of code that has to work with tens of thousands (if not more) different combinations of hardware and software there is bound to be something, but really, it is amazing how stable it is.

I have not had any problem with any of the standard services. I have one machine in particular that I don't reboot except once a month for updates nad it never needs any sort of maintenance (not even a reboot) during those time periods.

So, while I get highly frustrated at times, to the point where I consider switching to another OS, I have to step back sometimes and realize that what I am so bothered about is not a big deal in the scheme of things. Also, the more I look at alterrnatives to Windows, the more I start thinking that I like Windows better then the alternatives.

I guess that, at least for now, I'm not going anywhere and Windows is my affliction of choice.

I find it stable when I am using it, don't get me wrong. But...and that's a big But, there are things that I don't like about how Microsoft is acting lately, and that there are processes that are not being shown in the task mangler. Most of my issues, however are with hardware right now and my laptop. It's well used, and travelled a lot. Not abused, just used and used a lot.

Every now and then the screen will go garbled and I have to re start. OH, and Microsoft, fix the effing sleep function. When I closed my lid on Linux, the machine went to sleep, nothing happening. I close the lid on my windows install and come back to my laptop later it's like an oven. extremely hot.

If you press F12 repeatedly at startup you will be presented with a number of options. One of the options will be to do a complete stress test of all hardware. I would want to eliminate the possibility of any hardware problems.

It's the ram slot on my MB in my laptop. I have tested it all. I am just waiting until the ProArt P14 comes out to replace my laptop.

This is another reason/example I like using Panasonic Toughbook's. Zero bloatware. Not even Office.

www.mooringtech.com or www.ruggeddepot.com Same company but Rugged Depot bought them out a few years ago.

Just install clean windows 11 instead of using the encrapified vender version. I have Zero bloatware on all the devices my family owns. I take them from new, and format and install Clean windows without any vender software.

This is what I have done in the past. Also another bonus of doing a clean install is, if like me you don't want Edge, you could depending on your PC/Laptop, set your PC up as if it is in a EU Country and then you have the option of uninstalling Edge without breaking anything and without using third party tools.

Another possibility is to setup a "reference" system exactly how you want it; No bloatware, Windows customized how you like it, apps already preinstalled, etc. When done, just image it and now any machine that you install this to will be setup exactly how you want it as soon as you install Windows without having to lift a finger.

Granted, this is only going to be useful to people who do clean installs on a regular basis. For those doing clean installs rarely, it's probably not worth the effort to create a customized image for just a one-time installation.

As Gary said, at times not continuously. Laptops are notorious for poor cooling.
