Show abbreviate time and date option gone!

Noticed this morning that the time and date in the taskbar is showing 01/01/2025. I did change it to only show the short date without the year.
The option to change it back to short date is gone

@Brink - the registry is showing the flag set to '1'

Gone from my systems too. Was surprised that MS introduced this feature, and made it the default, as no doubt many people, me included, were unaware of this change and didn't understand why the time display had suddenly changed. The default should have been the status quo.

control panel > date and time > change date and time > change calendar settings > additional settings

you can change time formats within this window.

did it change back for you? i just tested on my 24h2 test pc and its showing shortened date still

Nope, still showing the full date with the year. The option to change it is gone from Settings

Looks like it has been temporarily disabled in some builds.

this KB is what made that option available. if its been disabled, try reinstalling this kb and see if it shows up again


or you can try force enabling it with vivetool

vivetool /enable /id:49143212,48433719

I've never used vivetool. All Windows updates are installed, it's like the option just disappeared

Canary build still gives you that option.

I changed it back as it removes the year from the file dates in File Explorer. So for now back to having the year in the taskbar.
