Just ran show key plus and it says my PC has an RTM Win 8 Pro Key but my version of Windows is Home.

Can i use the OEM Win 8 Pro key to make my version Pro version?

Update, using cmd/wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey it comes back as the win8pro key

Just tried to enter the win8pro key into the change product key section and it activated but nothing happened, even after a restart.

It still says i have win 11 home

If this was W10 then it would have upgraded from Home to Pro when you entered any valid W7 Pro or W8 Pro key. Things may have changed for W11.

While online, try changing the installed key to the generic Pro key VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

Windows will check for a digital licence on the MS activation servers. If your W8 Pro key has successfully gained you a digital licence for Pro then it will upgrade from Home to Pro. If your PC has no digital licence for Pro held on the MS activation servers then it will refuse to upgrade.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

And if it refuses to upgrade, then you can enter the generic product key Windows 10/11 Pro while NOT connected to the internet and it will upgrade to Pro, but not activate. Then use the Windows 8 Pro product key to activate it. OEM keys cannot be used to upgrade Home to Pro directly because, thinking about it logically, there would be no need for an OEM to do such an upgrade.

Thanks guys, absolutely brilliant, had to install, go offline, then activate once online again.

Now that you have the digital license for Windows 10/11 Pro, in the future you can just upgrade online with the generic key if you need to.
