My system and data are on different drives, both imaged regularly. My regular images are to cover my butt on my screw-ups, windows screw-ups and hardware failure. Every time I clean install and do all my apps, drivers, tweaks, etc. I create what I call my master system image. If I were to ever suspect any kind of infection and don't know when I acquired it, that's the image I would restore. Most applications will update themselves and the latest cumulative will update windows. At the most I might have to do an inplace upgrade if the version has changed and there's no enablement package. I've been fortunate in regard to malware and never had to use the master image, but I have it if I need it.
