About once a week, my Surface takes a loooooonnnnngggg time to wake up. Not just reboot, sometimes coming from just having the lid closed.

The Windows symbol hangs for a while, then I get the slloooowwww blue circle. It appears to be the same wakeup as when "Fast Startup" is UNchecked. But, in fact, "Fast Startup" is indeed checked.

I have updates to dl and install, I see. I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing behavior like this? Or if it's tied to Updates?

Hi,

You can use windows performance to record a trace so we can analyze and identify the root cause of the slowness:
How To Use Windows Performance Recorder - ZineTek

in the Windows Performance Recorder, select the performance scenario you want to analyze (Reboot, Wakup from hibernation ...etc.):

Do I need to set this up before an event?

Thanks!

Thanks for this. The trouble is, this super slow startup only happens sporadically - and sometimes when waking up from sleep. It appears this recorder needs to be manually run every time I want to get a snapshot. (I had presumed it would run in the background, and then when I had a problem I could just grab that last recording - like a black box...)

It opens instantly but takes a long time to load Windows, or it takes too long to switch on the screen? We have an HP desktop at work that if I dare to restart for any reason or switch it off it takes over 2 minutes to just switch on again! After that Windows load in a few seconds from the SSD and everything else is normal. If you have a similar case, probably some hardware issue. Otherwise some (hopefully) software issue. Check the disk with Hard Disk Sentinel to see if it has 100% health.

Check the health of the internal storage with Hard Disk Sentinel. In some models it might be replaceable. Ask your local Service. If the storage is OK, backup your files and try a clean Windows 11 installation. At first boot you may not have internet access and probably no touch control, so download all drivers from Microsoft support site in advance and copy at a USB flash drive. I would also use a USB hub to connect external keyboard/mouse and the Windows 11 USB Installer. Prepare carefully before formatting to avoid frustration. Been there done that.

That seems like a nuclear option for a sporadic nuisance.
a) Is there a better diagnostic to figure out what's causing it?
b) Is there any harm on just putting up with it?

Thanks

This is happening more frequently, and "Turn on Fast Startup" IS enabled. I have tried downloading HDSentinel, but ended up missing a birthday or two waiting for the download to complete...
