Solved SOLVED: Slow USB Transfer

I've got:

Seagate 1TB STGX1000400
Maxone 500GB

Both write with a transfer speed of 90-122

Just got a Seagate STKM1000400 which peak @32MB/s dropping to 16-17, And sometimes as low 10.
All 3 drives are connected using the same cable and port.

Problem solved.

Enabled Write-Caching

Speeds went through the roof

Peak 200+ Average ~100

You really didn't solve anything. You traded speed for risk of data loss.

Caching is by default disabled for external drives. That allows you to connect/disconnect these drives with only a small chance of data loss. If you want to enable the cache and take the risk of data loss that is your choice.

Important Safety Warning

• Enabling Write Caching means Windows uses temporary RAM memory to speed up file transfers.
• You must always use the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" option in the Windows taskbar before unplugging the drive.
• Unplugging the drive without ejecting it safely can lead to data loss or file corruption when write caching is active

You didn't say how you are measuring the write speeds. It is hard to know if your speeds mean anything until I do.
If you want to compare different drives it is more meaningful if you use a program like Crystal DiskMark,
BTW, if you also use Crystal DiskInfo you can find out more information about the drive.

With USB connected 2.5" HDDs the rotational speed of the drive makes a difference, For example that is apparent by comparing the the following external drives.

External HDD #1:
External Drive: Seagate SRDOOF1 (Expansion+) (1TB) USB 3.0
Internal Drive: ST1000LM024 HN-M101MBB : 1000.2 GB
Transfer Mode: SATA/300 | SATA/600
Rotation Rate: 5400 RPM



External HDD #2:
External Drive: Sabrent EC-UASP 2.5-Inch SATA HDD TO USB 3.0
Internal Drive: TOSHIBA MK3261GSYFN : 320.0 GB
Transfer Mode: SATA/300 | SATA/300
Rotation Rate: 7200 RPM
