Yes and everything else. Mic works fine. It is not talking to any recording apps.

Which recording apps?
There are quite a few settings in "recording apps" that need to be set properly so you can record from the mic.

I wanted to record what was coming through my speakers, and had to choose: Windows WASAPI
I don't even know what that stands for. LOL

WASAPI
(Windows Audio Session API) is Microsoft's modern audio interface for Windows (Vista and newer) that lets applications manage audio streams, offering lower latency and better quality by interfacing directly with audio hardware, unlike older methods like DirectSound.

LOL. It sounds very much like a hardware > software settings issue. "MS techs" are just a call centre collection of parrots who recite responses off cue cards, they probably wouldn't have a clue (or give a fig)

Check this.
Open whatever app you are having problems with. Right click on sound icon in bottom right task tray. Select volume mixer.
Under apps, if your app has access to sound it will be listed there. Make sure the little speaker icon to the right of the app name is not muted (has X on it)
