StagingTool.exe MS vivetool equivalent.

Apparenly this was an error but it's out. Do a search for stagetool and you will find the executable. This is the output from a DOS box.

StagingTool is the official ViVeTool-like app by Microsoft

         <featureId>        Specifies a feature by its feature Id


         <variantId>        Specifies a feature variant by id.


         [payload]          (Optional) Unsigned int payload for the variant
                            (for variants that support fixed payload)


       /serialize       Rather than apply changes to the local machine, use this
                        option to print out (in reg.exe/hex format) a new config
                        with all of the requested changes. This can be used for
                        offline updates to VHDs prior to first boot.


       /setlkg          Set Boot time feature override states as LKG Configurations
       /restorelkg      Restore Boot time LKG configurations states Feature Configurations


       /trace           Realtime ETW trace for the specified feature(s) usage in code
                        E.g. enable trace for the feature with ID 1235441: StagingTool.exe /trace 1235441

Ofc this and Vivetool would be much more useful, if they had plain English descriptions of the ID numbers and not the Micro-speak that is provided at present.

I'm still trying to find the ID number to make the Taskbar icons small again, after the 22621.2070 patch.

What was the ID number for that feature @Ghot and do you remember which version it worked last?

Part B, here.
The last version it worked on was 22621.1992 The CU Preview on July 26th broke the size tweak, again.

By enabling or disabling certain 8 digit "ID numbers", you can turn Windows 11 features ON or OFF. In many cases, Vivetool is the "only" way to enable/disable certain features. Make sure you use 3rd party backup software, before you start "tweaking" Windows. Official tutorial...

Comparison...

I also re-ran the Vivetool tweak, and undid it as well, just to check.
I also checked the registry, and it's still set to 0 (zero), which should be small icons.

I only run Winaero Tweaker and the manual Vivetool.
Nothing set in Winaero pertaining to the Taskbar, and as for Taskbar settings...

I can't find feature ID# 26008830 in 22621.1992 but I found a name for that feature: STTest -presumably SizeTaskbarTest-

But there is now a feature called OSTTest that carries ID# 44209656

It was called STTxxx or something similar. Typical Micro-speak. :/

Someone else found it... online I think. I can't remember who. It was one of the regulars, I know that much.
It was about 2-3 months ago, when MS broke the small icons tweak, the last time.
Then, just broke it again on July 26th.

STTest is the name.
But it's gone now, so disabling/enabling it has no effect.

Yes.... Microsoft is evil.

The previous time that MS broke the Taskbar size tweak (for Insider versions), was with the March 2023 update Tuesday patch on the 14th.
@FrancoDT posted that...

I had to go back about 100 pages (1500 posts of mine), to find that. LOL

Let me put it bluntly; if you do not know, you should not use it.
Now said, it turns experimental features on or off & sets some options on/off.
This should be utilized by adventurous insiders who have a fair understanding of its purpose and the hazards of its misuse.
Please do a search for vivetool on Google for more info as it is the MS equivalent.

I consider myself to have a fair understanding, I know enough to know that I'm certainly not going to risk using it to change anything.

The most I've ever used either it for is to query the current state of a feature. They both seem to do the same job, but TBH I'd probably trust ViveTool a bit more :wink:

Yeah. They fixed TranslucentTB.
