StartAllBack

In the past from some place I downloaded the detailed Version History of StartAllBack.
That was until version 3.6.5.
Somehow I don't remember from where I did download that.
I can see the Version History on the homepage of StartAllBack, but that's only a very shortened list.

Does anybody know where to become the comprehensive list?

Does this fix an issue I had with 3.7.1?
I had to uninstall it because, apparently, it isn't compatible with my version of Windows...??? Never happened before, only with that version.

Hello! Wonderful piece of software. But I think I found some kind of bug in the latest versions. I tried to post it on MSFN Forums, but they won't allow registrations for now, so maybe posting in here could be useful?

I had disabled TIFE (Tabs In File Explorer) with ViVeTool when they were introduced. For some period of time, I used version 3.7RC2 of StartAllBack, and it worked well. Today I updated to version 3.7.2, and then, everytime I tried to open a file explorer window, explorer.exe just crashed. After some tinkering, I discovered that if I re-enabled TIFE and restarted the computer to apply changes, crashes were no longer happening. Thing is, I don't want to use TIFE, and as I said, StartAllBack worked correctly with 3.7RC2. I will now upload 3 videos as proof of those different configurations:

3.7.2, TIFE disabled and explorer crashing: 3.7.2, TIFE enabled and explorer working: 3.7 RC2, TIFE disabled and explorer working:
It would be very appreciated if this could be looked at :-)

Possibly the reason does not lay in StartAllBack, but in Windows 11 versions 22621.2506 and 22631.2506 (and following those versions).
Before that, the ViveTool options to disable tabs were:
vivetool /disable /id:36354489
vivetool /disable /id:37634385

That does not function anymore in .2506 (up) , when clicking the File Explorer window just flashes and disappears again.

The command you need to do is:
vivetool /fullreset
vivetool /disable /id:40729001
vivetool /disable /id:37634385

The command /id:36354489 was the old NavPane function, that does not work anymore in .2506 (up)
The command /id:40729001 will disable the new features of the File Explorer
The command /id:37634385 is for the tabs (in both cases).

Above is described how I experienced it (had that flashing Explorer window as well), but it might be I am wrong about the exact explanations.

Please specify in your "My Computer" what Windows version you are using.
Can be seen easily when you send the command 'winver' in the command box.
Example: Windows 11 Pro 23H2 22631.2861 (mine at this moment).

It works! By doing BOTH the commands you described, it seems that StartAllBack 3.7.2 works correctly with the file explorer! And yup, I have the same W11 version as you (23H2 22631.2861).

Still, I wonder why exactly the file explorer crashes when only the tabs are disabled AND the latest StartAllBack is running. Perhaps the newer version tries to call those new features of Windows in some kind of weird way? It seems odd that, if I don't have StartAllBack installed (or an old version is), disabling *only* TIFE works *even* with Windows fully updated.

In any case, thank you for pointing me in the right direction :D

Okay, I did some more experimenting (scroll down if you don't care about the details).

Even if I have the latest winver, the OS doesn't want to automatically enable 40729001 just yet, for some reason, because I did a /vivetool /query 40729001, and it said that it's disabled AND the type is "Experiment", not "Override". That's why disabling TIFE only, worked for me before, because *both* were disabled.

Then, if I uninstall SAB, and only disable TIFE, but *forcefully enable* 40729001, then reboot, explorer crashes too, with 22631.2861.

Now I have SAB 3.7.2, and the two IDs disabled with ViVeTool. All working, as I said in my earlier post.

TL;DR: it seems that it's indeed a Windows issue. I dunno the technical details, but maybe my OS went stupid and didn't automatically enable 40729001, but at the same time, in that state, didn't want to work with the latest SAB; if I disabled 40729001 forcefully, then it all works regardless of SAB version.

I have just one more little question. Can the new notification tray icons (microphone, location, and possibly more) be changed to the old ones? I mean, to the black/white ones, instead of the blue ones I have right now (they clash with the other Bluetooth, Network and EarTrumpet icons). I don't know if it was a SAB update or just a Windows update that changed them, I think it's the former, but I'm not really sure.

Sorry for the mistake, and thanks again!

You'd better post a screenshot of that!

True!

With SAB 3.6.12:
q3mb40d.png

With SAB 3.7+:
qr5m2ja.png

AFAIK, the 3.7 update brought changes/improvements to the notification tray handling, so maybe it has to do with "the part of the OS from where the app grabs those icons" depending on the version? Or maybe they're "embedded" on the app itself and they just were changed? (The "New icons" option from the Explorer tab of SAB does not have to do with this, it seems.)

I can't reproduce that, because I have no laptop, but an oldfashioned desktop PC, which does not have a microphone attached and has no location detection (which is switched off as policy option via O&O Shutup).

So I hope @Tihiy will read this and look if he can reproduce your problem. ;-)

I believe the active Tray icons take on your accent color...
(Uploading screenshots here sucks! The color always gets washed out!) 🤷‍♂️

I never have any problems with that. Maybe it's the PNG file format? Try a .JPG instead (.JPG files are much smaller anyway for the same resolution).

My accent color (blue-gray) is not used for any active tray symbol at all...

I believe the active Tray icons take on your accent color...
Oh, yeah, I think that's it! Changing them to the accent color actually does make sense, but I think they clash a bit with the other OS tray icons. It does not bother me *a lot*, but I did like how it was in the earlier versions, and an option to change them to how they were would be cool. They actually are different icons too, it is notable for example in the Location one.

My accent color (blue-gray) is not used for any active tray symbol at all...
Maybe by "active" they meant the category to where Microphone and Location icons belong? As in, they only appear when something is using them?

Made an account JUST to ask since MSFN has registration disabled, is there any way to force, or are there plans to add support for pinning web link shortcuts to the main start menu? Most steam shortcuts are weblink based and SAB offers no such option. and certain games don't launch as steam titles if launched directly from their main Executables.
