Some of them I had disabled already. I shall disable a load more and try again as you presumably believe this could be a cause of the errors.

I have seen failures in the update in the late stages related to startup apps.
I have made it a habit (so have many others) to disable my startup apps (all 3 of them) before any Dev build installations.
That does not mean, it is a guaranteed solution & the MEMORY1 error is worrisome.
Please reboot after finishing disabling those.

I'm on my phone now. Update is running again. We shall see. The memory error has only just appeared. However the pc rebooted fine after disabling everything in startup. Not sure how you manage with 3 startups. Mine include backup, home security, email, antivirus, vpn. That's 5 already.

This is my PC after startup: You can see all 3 running.

A registry key tells you all as well.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartupApproved\Run

It seems you have been dealing with this for a while. Sometimes, when normal troubleshooting doesn't work one is spinning their wheels, it makes more sense to back up your data and do a clean install. Another failed update. Still getting INVALID DATA ACCESS TRAP. At least the memory error did not reappear.
I was trying to avoid a clean install due to the amount of software on the machine. It's not so my=uch the reinstallation but the reconfigueration of it all. For instance, it took me hours to get my security cams and NAS working. Just the thought of that alone fills me with dread. Reinstallation is a last ditch decision. Unless anyone can think of anything I have not tried it could be the only thing left. Of course, I then have the worry of a clean installtion failing for whatever reason is causing this update issue.

I am sorry. I wish it hadn't been fruitless.
We could always dig in the event viewer but it would take time.
If I were you, I would use my PC as it is and wait for the next update.
One never knows.

If you make an image beforehand, it's very easy to get back to the point where you started.

I know where you are coming from when it comes to getting all software reinstalled. Been there, done that...more than once. In fact, I do it as routine on any machine that has gone through multiple upgrades. But I'm kind of OCD when it comes to "stuff" that accumulates over time. IMO this is especially true when it comes to 3rd party drivers that have gone through multiple updates and leave stuff behind as well as software conflicts.

I think I shall forget the update. To be honest, the only thing I was looking forward to was the ability to reorganise the start menu. Maybe the next update won't come up with the same error.

I couldn't leave it alone so contacted PC Specialist who, after 3 messages from me to read my question properly, (they suggested rolling back to W10), they came up with this suggestion from MS regarding update issues back in W10.
dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup
I tried it without holding out much hope, as I have spent around 20 hours with failed updates, but at 90% it didn't blue screen as normal but continued to completion.
Thanks to everyone on here for your assistance. If anyone else has problems installing ANY windows updates, run the above from your command line. Don't forget to run as administrator.

Someone on this thread mentioned dism before, but I was so loaded down with trying different suggestions, it went by the by.

Maybe you will be the exception, but I have found that once a cumulative fails, all cumulatives that follow also fail. May I suggest that once you get this worked out that you establish some sort of backup routine. Having backups can save your bacon.

I already have a backup regime. One to HDD, one to NAS, one to offsite.

msconfig on dev now redirects you to Apps/startup Apps, so if it doesn't for you yet , it will soon.

MSCONFIG will allow you to disable Services from startup. For the applications it redirects you the Startup section in Task Manager.

I am on 22H2 and apparently with this you can add folders to the start menu? I can't see that option anywhere.
