Windows 11
Hi everyone,

I have been using Windows Calendar and recently I have been receiving a notification within the app that it was being replaced by "New Outlook for Windows" with a toggle to try the new New Outlook.

In typical Microsoft fashion, they make their notifications just a tad invasive to "encourage" people to make the switch so I did.

Overall I do like the new look and feel so I'm happy to make it my new default calendar app, the only issue is that at startup, the app opens to the mailbox and I would like it to open to the calendar as I'm using it as my calendar app.

It seems like this question was asked here and it was said that the feature to make the app start on the calendar doesn't exist Redirecting

It does exist on Microsoft Office Outlook but not on the "New Outlook for Windows" app.

The above thread was created on Sept 30, 2023 and I was wondering if Microsoft added the possibility to choose to open calendar on startup?

Thank you in advance

Is there any way to find what the link code is for Calendar in that context menu? And possibly create a link to it to pin to the taskbar?

EDIT 2: This version naming makes my head explode. Now I am unclear. How did you do it pre New Outlook (APP)?

Don't get me started on the naming. In all the threads about the "New Outlook for Windows" I came across online, you always have at least 1 or 2 persons responding and referring to the wrong app (Microsoft outlook). That's why in OP I highlighted a few times that I was talking about "New Outlook for Windows" and not Microsoft Outlook
if you've pinned the new Outlook app on taskbar right click and select calendar.

2 clicks instead of 1 but that will do it for now I guess.
Thanks for the workaround, appreciate it (y)

Please let me know if you can figure this out, that would a nice hack

OK. Create calendar as an App and pin to taskbar.
Open Outlook.com and sign in. In Edge open settings scroll to Apps then open in calendar. Select what you want to do with the App. If you've pinned the App to taskbar it will open to calendar with one click.

In Outlook (new) Settings/General/Start-up, set Always reopen previous items...

While you have the New Outlook/Mail open, right click on Calendar, click Open in new window,

then, close all Outlook windows from the Taskbar...

Now Mail will open, then Calendar immediately after and on top.

Oddly, the identical settings in Classic Outlook do not work while you have Outlook (new) installed...,
(probably because they don't expect you to have the two operating simultaneously!) 🤷‍♂️

2. prepare to open startup hidden files/folder:
- open/click file explorer
- click view, options
- click view tab
- select/enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives"
- click OK

3. paste calendar desktop shortcut to startup folder
- open file explorer
- go to " C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup"
- right click then paste calendar from clipboard.

4. restart windows and ENJOY calendar on startup.

I couldn't add my AOL Mail account with my email password to IMAP, so I had to generate one Outlook could login with.

You'll find it under the Account Security tab - generate one and paste it into your IMAP password field.

Microsoft gave no help on how to obtain an app password because my usual password was always rejected.

Here's a simpler way to do it.

Open the Outlook Calendar link in Microsoft Edge:

Now scroll down to where it says more tools:

Click pin to taskbar.

That's it!
