Solved Story of my First Ever Macrium Reflect X Restore

Hello All

Situation status is Resolved, just posting this story as it was a Dosey--took me the entire day to get system back to normal

First The Macrium Reflect X USB Rescue Drive wouldn't boot (solved that last night finally)

Then Windows kept crashing on the wifi driver portion--bluescreening lol

Finally turned off secure boot, set to factory keys, did clean install

Reconfigured everything

((during the process somehow lost On board Ethernet for a while) solved with asking MS Co-Pilot what to do, and then it started working again))

Co Pilot said Shutdown the Computer, unplug power cord, hold power button for 10-15 seconds, re-plug in power and Turn on Computer) On-board ethernet started working immediately after that procedure

Then i resetup Secure boot Mitigations

and Last night referenced old post on here i found, and got my Macrium Reflect X Rescue USB successfully booting into its Recovery & backup mode

Moral of the story is don't try a Restore unless your sure the following items are in working order lol

Macrium Reflect X Rescue USB
Windows Boot Drive
and maybe even a second recovery usb just to be safe lol

Probably be a very long time before i try another Restore lol, and hopefully i won't need to

Also solved my Mystery 3 Apps always wanting to update in MS store i was having

You may also want to create a rescue media option on the Windows Boot menu. I've used this method over the past many (MANY LOL) years with Norton, True Image, and these days with Macrium. As long as your system boots as far as the boot menu, this is probably the easiest method.

Yes i will keep that in mind as well, if i ever need to do a future Restore, hopefully i won't have to/

But at least i know now proper steps, made sure the Rescue USB is bootable in its current form, and hopefully system keeps running good for a long time

Macrium is in the same boat as people who are doing the Secure Boot fixes. At some point they WILL HAVE to pro-actively detect which version of the boot files are in both the USB recovery device AND what's installed in the backup image. Otherwise a problem is likely to happen.

Rufus is one of the first tools which checks the boot file version, and at least provides a visible warning. Any USB-based recovery tool needs to provide two bootable versions, because they don't know who has revoked CA 2011 and who hasn't yet.

Again, if you temporarily disable Secure Boot, then your UEFI will boot anything.

Actually, I'd suggest creating the boot menu option now. When you need to perform a restore, it may be too late.
