Solved Strange boot problem...

Most boards although they don't have a bios flash back option in bios they do allow refreshing bios if named properly and still on a fat32 flash drive.

I got a $360 workstation motherboard. I figured for that much it would have a decent manual. I was wrong. LOL
The hard copy manual is a whopping 16 pages.

Well if you scroll down your profiles page there should be options to export profiles to text form
Fat32 flash drive needed is all.

Years ago, the only motherboards I would use would be ASUS, but after a few short lived boards, I switched to GIGABYTE and never looked back.

I have an ASUS laptop and wish I had never bought it. At the time, GIGABYTE laptops were in short supply.

Yeah, I'm fairly familiar with how it works. These are just the flashes I've done on this ASUS board.
And this is my sixth ASUS board... at least the come with a "Bios renamer" tool. :)

Yeah, I specifically bought a workstation board, cause it was eight layers, aka, built like a tank.
I love how they had the forethought to move the battery, yet it "still" sits "under" the vid card. LOL

From the prices of z590 and now z690 I believe I've build my last rig lol

Yeah... I've been doing it that way for years. Much easier. :)
Previously, even the non-ROG boards could do the flashback BIOS.
But they started cheaping out on that too.

ASUS used to have non-soldered BIOS chips on their boards. And they sold BIOS chips too.
They only cost $15. You could call them up and order a pre-flashed BIOS chip with any version you wanted.

I just updated my BIOS on my GIGABYTE X299X DESIGNARE 10G (Rev. 1.0) yesterday. I used Q-Flash.
I tend to think that it's safer doing it from outside of Windows.

Something to remember after flashing your BIOS is to re-enable TPM.

Yeah, flashing the BIOS through Windows, or over the internet, is a no win situation.

I have used GIGABYTE @BIOS to update the BIOS on rare occasions when I've been feeling dangerous.



But I usually stick with GIGABYTE Q-Flash. They also have Q-Flash Plus now where you can plug your UFD into a dedicated Q-Flash Plus USB port for an automatic flash. But I have never tried it.

The 1. issue seems all too familiar. I had several strange video/display issues appear after a BIOS update, until I completely disabled CSM. It's on by default for most motherboards, and in the case of ASUS boards it remains enabled even after you turn on Secure Boot - or it does as far as the UEFI/BIOS enviroment is concerned, it would still be impossible to boot from devices without installing SB keys on them. After the BIOS update when I restored "optimized defaults" I must've forgotten to disable it again. All other settings I restored to how they were before, such as XMP and Secure Boot. As a general rule (that I can now vouch for myself) it's best to disable CSM if all of your hardware supports UEFI, it ensures that they will be operating optimally. The "emulated BIOS enviroment" is always a compromise of sorts, and not all motherboard/video card/display combinations like that.

One of the issues was the one you're having, I could only see the BIOS splash screen/OS loading circles after a cold boot, never during restarts. Another thing was that the resolution of those screens was set at 1024x768 instead of my native 1440p. And yet another thing was that after Windows restarts, the display was dimmed when I got to the desktop. Yes, dimmed, as if the display's gamma/contrast/brightness settings had been altered. No setting in Windows or with video drivers would fix it. Only power-cycling the display would fix it, including the display going to sleep mode. It was very handy during Windows feature updates, so that I could see what's happening.

The 2. and 3. issues would seem to indicate either an account or Windows installation corruption, but since it's happening to both of your disks, it's unlikely. Not impossible, but unlikely. It would then seem as if the problem is hardware. It's known that motherboard SATA or cable issues can cause OS corruption, but since everything works normally after sign-in, that can't be the case.

When I disable CSM, I still don't get the splash screen, and I get a 2nd brief loading wheel after the normal Windows loading wheel.
And as for the account issue thing... I restored from a 21 day old backup and it's still there.

I think we can pretty much rule out Windows issues.
Unless ofc Microsoft has decided to mess with people who won't attach their local account to a MS account. LOL

An old sevenforums thread to look at for the BIOS screen problem (check Fast boot setting in BIOS). And an old tenforums thread might be worth looking at for the Windows boot problem (check into your Disk Management). Don't know if they'll help but at this point you look at everything and then some.

I wonder if the BIOS is haven trouble communicating when one of your installed devices?

Ok...

I reset the CMOS, reseated the RAM and vid card, found out that if I set the BIOS to optimized defaults, I can go backwards to earlier BIOSes. So I did that too. Went back 2 BIOS versions to 3601, before they started the Win 11 BIOS tweaks.

Same problem. So, I flashed again to the latest version (3801), same problem.
Did the Macrium "Fix Boot Problems", again... no help.

So, like the energizer bunny... "still going". :/

and I assume you also scanned your drives for error?
