Hi, I found some strange folders in the user folder on Windows 11 (C:\Users), see screenshots below. Is this something I should be worried about?

A simple Google search - could have cleared that for you:

What it is

  • Font Driver Host: The "UMFD-0" and "UMFD-1" entries are names for a legitimate Windows process called Fontdrvhost.exe.
  • User-Mode Driver Framework: "UMFD" refers to the User-Mode Driver Framework, a system that helps manage device drivers.
  • Legitimate process: This is a standard and essential part of Windows. It's not malware, though it can be exploited by malware if a malicious parent process spawns it.
So yes, they're created by Windows. UMFD is short for "User Mode Font Driver" - and it's associated with font management for applications that utilize specific font drivers. Since you have UMFD-0 and UMFD-1 - you probably had 2 different applications which used those folders - for custom settings. They're not critical folders - so deleting them is not an issue (tho, you can also delete critical Windows folders - without noticing any obvious issue upon a restart, you'll notice them latter - when the component dependent of those folders spams errors - even tho Windows - in general seems to be running just fine). Tho, luckily - this in particular - are not essential to Windows. Since you delete them... Win + R -> regedit -> go to...
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

...and also delete any keys pointing to these TEMP or UMFD profiles.
