Solved Stuck on 21H2 and can't seem to update to 23H2

Download all drivers from manufacturer and install them starting from the chipset because all other devices depend on it.

Yes, that was already resolved.

Can't find drivers

They don't make it easy. Some kind of service tag like what Dell has would have solved the problem, but MS doesn't do it that way.

In that case, download Aida64 and then go to Devices section to see exactly what hardware you have. Then you have to visit the individual manufacturer's site and get the driver from them. Have done it many times for old computers or no-name computers without proper support. Sometimes I do it even if the computer manufacturer provides drivers because they are outdated and I want to get the latest ones.

Yeah, these upgrade lockdowns are crazy

I do have a rather old PC, but it's sill a Core I7 6700K, and i even added a compatible TMP chip to the motherboard, that shows up in windows and is working, MB also has UEFI (with secure boot, i think)

So no clue why i would be excluded, when other PC's are way crappier than mine....

To upgrade from Windows 10 to 11 21H2 and from 21H2 to 22H2 all you had to do was bypass compatibility check. To upgrade to 23H2 additionally you must disconnect from the internet, otherwise it fails at 70-75% before the first restart. Yes, you can upgrade from 21H2 directly to 23H2 using the ISO, I have done it. Your CPU also supports SSE4.2 instruction set, including the PopCnt instruction, so you can also upgrade to 24H2 if you want. Unlike 23H2 and earlier versions, the replacement of a specific hidden file from Setup cache no longer works with the original unmodified 24H2 ISO. The only method that still works is to open a Command Prompt as Administrator and execute this code:

This switches from Windows disk (C:) to the virtual DVD (D: replace with the appropriate letter) and tells Setup it is installing a Server version so it skips compatibility check. Also see last posts on thread "Let's install Windows 11 on unsupported computers".

I was already on 21h2, and had to do some registry hacks to get that one going

The bypass stuff for 22h2 wasn't working (but I was connected to the internet)

...pc updating to 22h2, via uup right now (we'll see how it goes)

I have no need for that since my problem with the Surface Pro was solved in that other thread that I linked to up above. In my case, it was unique to the way the manufacturer had set it up for my particular laptop/tablet.

So, post #4 solved my issues

Updated via UUD, and then ran the enabler, after which all the updates showed up in windows update
(now on latest 10/24 version of 23H2)

I did unplug my ethernet each time, and disabled my anti-virus when running the updates

Now i just need to get rid of some old asus driver software (AI Suite 3) thats acting up

To get rid of stubborn applications and all their traces you need a dedicated uninstaller application, such as Revo Uninstaller.

I found a guide that listed all processes and services, and removed them by hand

Too bad it's not working anymore (some stuff with old uncompatible 32bit drivers ...)

Welcome to Eleven Forum.

You're excluded because you have a 6th gen CPU, where 8th gen is the minimum requirement. To upgrade you need to use an ISO and one of the known workarounds.

It will be fine, I have 24H2 and the latest Insider builds running on a 1st gen i5 with TPM 1.2 and Legacy bios/MBR.

Even if you enable TPM and Secure Boot and do an UEFI mode installation, the 6th generation CPU doesn't pass the compatibility check, so you can only install Windows 11 bypassing compatibility check. No big deal, you can enable them and be as secure as you want or do a Legacy BIOS installation to save disk space by avoiding the multiple system partitions. I did a Legacy BIOS installation in mine because my first SSD was nominal 250GB (actual a little over 230GB) and I didn't want the system partitions in GPT to take valuable disk space. In MBR the system partition was just one, but you can create a single NTFS partition before doing a clean installation and tell Setup to install there without reformatting the disk, this way avoiding even this one. Also I never seen any performance advantage using UEFI over Legacy BIOS, so why not.

PS: If anyone wants to try doing a Legacy BIOS installation on a single NTFS partition, don't create it from Setup, it will also create the system partition. Press SHIFT+F10 at first Setup screen to open a Command Prompt window and type this code:

Replace disk 0 with the appropriate number for your target disk. Now you can proceed. On the disk page, just click next to start installation without doing any modifications on the disk.

The file you download will look like this. Extract all this to a "new" folder on your desktop, and then double click the command in the RED box, to build the ISO image.

When it's finished building the ISO, the command prompt window will say something like... "Press 0 to Exit"
Also, there will be a new ISO image in the folder you created earlier.

Then "mount" the ISO and run it's setup.exe to to do an In-Place upgrade to 22H2.

You either got a bad download, or possibly your Antivirus is blocking it.
You may need to temporarily disable Defender or whatever AV you use.

Ofc there may be some other compatibility issue, that I don't know about.
MS keeps breaking the tweaks we use to make the installer work on non-compatible systems.

If the ISO extension is associated with a different application, you can right-click and select Open with -> File Explorer.

Got it sorted. It was antivirus blocking it. I right clicked on that last file and chose run as administrator. Turning off Norton didn't work so I downloaded it on a different laptop that just had defender on it and defender gave you the option to "run anyway"

Only thing is I now want to move the iso file from that laptop to my other laptop and it says it's too big to fit on a 30gb usb stick. The iso says it's 4.4gb! I have burned it to usb but like to save the iso's all together on my main laptop. I could download it again on my main laptop but it would mean completely uninstalling antivirus - turning it off didn't work.

Edit: I formatted the usb to ntfs and then the iso copied to it ok.
