Suddenly Slow Bootup

I am a little worried. I rarely turn off my laptop, but just close the lid. This morning when I opened my laptop, the first thing I was asked was to change my login code, so I did. I've never been asked that before. The laptop is in my home, and no one else has access to it.

Well. I changed my code and thought I would restart my laptop. There I discovered that my laptop is INCREDIBLY slow to start up. Normally it starts almost immediately (10-15 sec) but now it takes almost 50 sec to 1 minute before it is ready.

When the computer starts up, everything works as usual. There are no error messages or anything. I use Windows Defender as my primary anti virus and I have run a "Full Scan" - it shows no viruses or threats.

I've also checked my startup programs and there's nothing drastic there either. Nothing but what has always been and there have never been any problems. I have 445GB free space, out of 476GB, so I have almost nothing that takes up space on my PC.

The PC is from August 2022, so it is only about 3 months old. Has anyone experienced anything similar and has any idea what could be wrong?

I have recently had a similar issue with a desktop system, where the system was very slow to load and showing various fault conditions - so much that I purchased a replacement (upgrade) motherboard.

Before I could change the MB I had an error when entering windows that the Profile was corrupted and appeared not present and to start a new one. part way through the rebuild of the profile, quite an involved process on this system, due to the setup, part way though the system rebooted and immediately booted up as it did previously, the old profile was active again and has been fine since.

It may be worthwhile creating a new user and seeing what the boot times are with that, It could be a corruption problem with the OS rather than a physical failure

@barman58

My biggest concern is whether it is a virus that caused it. But if Windows Defender doesn't find anything in a Full Scan, can I trust it?

I will try a new user profile and see if it makes a difference. Thank you for your advice.

Windows Defender is a good Anti Malware system so it should be safe to continue if it gives a clean bill of health, the system has improved a lot recently and there are many members of the Forum that just rely on Defender without any issues

. This morning when I opened my laptop, the first thing I was asked was to change my login code, so I did. I've never been asked that before.
Very strange and cause for concern. Is the computer in a Sleep or Hibernate mode when left on ?

May check Event Viewer and Windows Reliability Monitor for entries. And scan with ESET or another 3rd party AV. Also, post or check in the Lenovo Forum.

@barman58

I tried creating a new local profile, signed in with it, rebooted - it made no difference. Unfortunately.

@csun

Hmm the lid has been closed overnight, doesn't it activate Hibernate? I am a little in doubt. It asked me to create a new password for login. I have been inside Event Viewer and Windows Reliability Monitor. I'm not sure what to look for in the Event Logger - in the Windows Reliability Monitor I can see an unexpected shutdown on 07-11-2022 late in the evening. It is the night before that morning I open my laptop and see that it asks for a new password. I'll just post a screenshot.

@Winuser

Unfortunately no.

@RJARRRPCGP

I have tried to google how to test if there are errors on one's SSD. Did a test through Terminal and it came back with an "OK" response.

My system language is in Danish, so I don't know if what is written makes sense. But from 07-11-2022 the warning is that Windows Update was not run. As of 08-11-2022, the critical events are Windows failed to shut down properly and PhoneExperienceHost.exe stopped responding. I use my Android phone with Link to Windows.

Is there anything that looks suspicious?
I did a clean install on 01 November, therefore there is nothing on the log until then.

Do check that Lenovo Forum. And check the Lenovo site for any updates, especially for the BIOS.

Also, does Lenovo offer free customer support for a new computer only 2 plus months old ? If so, give them a call.
