super unimpressed with PatchMyPC for home users

Moderators: please move this thread if necessary.

Just 216 applications, not "500." And no Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom. Or Quicken, or MS Office, or Revo Uninstaller Pro, or ... Even the commerical versions of PatchMyPC don't include any of these programs. I'm underwhelmed, to say the leat.

So i guess I'm going to revert to UniGetAI.

Also have Lenovo T14S laptop (me) and Lenovo Slim 71 (wife)
I've never used the home version, but I installed it in a VM, and counted the apps. I got to 200, and I wasn't halfway through the list. I do know they have an app request process, so it could be that, for any given app, no one requested it or they can't get to the download without a login, for example. Providing an update for Office/365 apps would be a huge pain, I'm sure.

There's 500 apps listed on PatchMyPC Home Updater's website... but most of them are small freeware utilities.

I would agree they don't have many paid apps if that was your expectation. As @pseymour notes, some software vendors may block non-customers from accessing their latest downloads. I wouldn't want to give an updater app my logon credentials...

Are you taking about the HOME version? I installed the home version in Windows Sandbox, and it showed 216 programs available for download, total.

Probably an update O 365 program by program, Word, Excel, etc.

[I looked at the ones that were in the Sandbox install (see previous message) and I was like, meh.

I don't think you do that for UniGetUI. Of course, UniGetUI doesn't download MS Office 365, nor Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. But for those programs, you log in through their website. I would be happy if an installer manager could just download and run the installers automagically.

Yes, I mentioned the home version, and then said “it.” Also my screenshot says Home.

The reality is most paid apps have their own self-updaters. Which leads to a crazy proliferation of different self-updaters. Had Microsoft Store been more successful in attracting partners, then most updates would have been delivered by one service – Windows Update.

Thanks for the tip. They have a portable version located in their installer so that's a good thing. :-)

Given Microsoft's lousy history with driver updates, I'm not looking for any single gatekeepers here. These kind of updaters are best used with free or unpaid software since they are all in one place, and UniGetUI doesn't have any of my paid software showing up in the list that I now just updated.

Not to mention, VirusTotal confirms that it's malware-free, an added bonus.
