Surface Pro 7 touchscreen unresponsive - windows 11

This is ridiculous. Finally giving up. It's already 2022! I have this sleek tablet for work that's been trash since win 11. I reset it last night and it put back freaking win 11 after an hour. I got to manually install 10 back now from USB and pray it works. After many wasted hours. SIX MONTHS of having to get my type cover, attaching, and opening and closing to have a flipping touch screen. Might as well got a laptop.

I know it's a beta or whatever but for Christs sakes it's been a year almost on an official Microsoft product. Surface pro 7 and this. It's flipping unacceptable. I'm so pissed. Obv.

It's a matter of time before Microsoft releases new drivers to address the issue. Just use hibernation instead of sleep for a while, it is not that bad. People complained about Windows XP when they were first out, they argued Windows 98 were better. Then they complained about Windows 7 and supported XP. Now we complain about 11 and argue 10 is better. History repeats itself...

Windows 11 is not beta, unless you run an Insider's build. If you do, then you take the responsibility for any incompatibility and you should report the bug to Microsoft, no blame them.

Dudes, keep running your traps. Sorry I used the word beta. The point is it sucked for me. I just spent two hours getting everything right and blocking it from updating to 11. It is what it is. I just feel it's ridiculous that it's a Microsoft product. I could see if it was some windows device. The fact it's not a beta anymore even further solidifies that. It's been 6 months fumbling with a type cover I DON'T USE. The whole lock screen is a nightmare I'm not even gonna get into.

Now it's all good. I don't need the type cover. And when I turn on my COMPUTER I'm back to WORK instantly. It's almost magical. I'm very happy again. Hopefully they fix this soon. Maybe another 2 years because all my other computers are 11 now and I'm used to it.

Spin it how you want.

You are correct. I would have just went back to windows 10 and no insider, no 11 on this thing.

If you are having this problem, and it's an annoyance, or COSTLY to your business ( thanks ) just go back till 10 and block the 11 update. Easy google search.

Also, resetting from within the tablet takes you back to 11 so you'll have to install from a USB I think. I could be wrong about that, you may be able to revert to 10. I didn't see it and my option was greyed out.

Hopefully they notify us when their broken 1k tablet is fixed...

I love it but I need to upgrade and this will definitely have me looking at other options.

So, I didn't want to use any beta-stuff on my productive system, but I'm on dev channel now. it's working. Touchscreen and hello cam are back on anytime after standby oder hibernation.

This is good news. It means that the next release version of Windows 11 will have fixed this issue. In the meantime you can use the Dev build and later upgrade to the release.

Hi All,

I posted some feedback to Microsoft on this but wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing the same issue of the touch screen (and the pen) on the Surface Pro 7 becoming unresponsive without any clear indication as to the cause. Keyboard and touchpad are working fine.

I was hoping this would be resolved with the various fixes that are getting released but now I see W11 will be available "outside" of the insider program, perhaps this isn't a problem for others?

I am on the Beta channel running W11 version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.168)

Thanks in advance for your assistance,
Alex

Touch screen depends on appropriate chipset (platform) drivers. Reinstall the chipset drivers and functionality of touch screen should be restored. I had a similar issue with an HP Stream 7 tablet. Windows update would occasionally replace some drivers and I lost the touch feature. After installing again the official platform drivers from HP, functionality was restored.

Ah I've tried this. Even downloading and installing new drivers, downloading a fresh windows 10, factory resetting, nothing is working. It was totally fine and working before I tried downloading windows 11, ever since it won't read any touch drivers. Microsoft says it hardware but it's just too suspicious that it quit working after trying to update windows. It sucks.
