several days ago the "System configuration" was on "Normal Startup" Just wondering why it now shows Selective startup? (I can't recall what - if I made a change? regards. I did not touch it. regards....

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
If you chose to do a Clean Boot, or if you removed or disabled any of the Startup Items in Task Manager/Startup tab (previously msconfg) you will get a Selective Startup. the computer will work fine without these apps that want to start with Windows

I think you may be being misled by the bad wording of the startup options. What's named "Normal startup" is just devices and services; no startup programs. The second option, "Diagnostic" starts fewer devices and fewer services and no programs. The third, "Selective" is really the normal startup, with normal services, devices, and the programs you have set to run at startup. I can't say why you saw "Normal" selected earlier, but your curent "Selective" is the one you want.

Thx. people. I just had a brain-fade last night. :sneaky: don't recall what I did? I was reading all the Tutorials you sent me Ghot !! I just ran the SFC /scannow & it stopped at 65%. I restarted th laptop & it ran clean & fast. - Ran the DISM's - Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth - all's well.
Don't know what else to do.? Its a SSD - good thing I didn't do a Defrag. you have a good week. Supper time here. thanks for the replies. regards, Ed

Almost everyone I have read that says SFC stopped working, mention 65%. I believe it’s just a matter of great patience.
