System hang waiting for disk [might be just a rant]

OS
Windows 11
Hi all, my windows is installed on an SSD and in my system I also have an HDD for other data. Is it normal behaviour for windows to hang (the cursor doesn't move, everything in the user interface freezes) for (half a) second while the HDD spins up when I open something in that drive? Of course it only happens if the drive was spun-down.

I mean, probably the answer is yes and the reason why it goes like that is that windows sucks, since I see no reason why the system should hang instead of showing the loading cursor if it's waiting for a non-system drive to wake up. But who knows.

(Please avoid telling me off-topic things like setting the HDD to never spin down etc, it's just not the point)

Thanks to anyone who will try to help :)

I have a 512GB SSD in my new Desktop, added a 2TB HDD and see the same thing. I only need the 2TB for additional storage so that few seconds are not an OCD issue but maybe some of the Power Options may need adjusting. I haven't thought about how Indexing is affecting it yet.

Again, power options need no adjusting, it's just ridiculous how badly windows sucks given how big microsoft is (and how much windows costs to buy).
Thank you for telling your experience tho

Might be time to start thinking about ssd's. the price have dropped for the smaller capacity drives. The 1tb can be had for £70

I do agree with you, still not the point though. Windows is too much of a mess, SSD or not
