System Restore not giving back space when Restore points deleted

I've deleted most of my Restore points. I'd like to hold on to the last couple.

However, after deleting a whole bunch of them, it's still using just as much space. How can I get it to return the lost space?

I'm confused by your question. The amount of space set aside (reserved )for system restore takes away from your total available disk space whether you
have restore points using the space or not. So I do not know what you mean by "lost space". You can lessen how much disk space is reserved for SR by dragging the slider bar to the left.

Correct... but it has used up the entire allocated space (50 gb). I either need to allocate more space, or gain back some of the space left from removed store points.

CCleaner has a utility to delete them.

You should have more free space after deleting retsore points. Have you had a look in System Volume Information and see what is there ?

EDIT: Despite several restarts, nothing changed. But I hacked around with Disk Cleanup for a while and I'm down to using 17GB out of 50GB with four restore points from the last couple days... so it's looking OK now.

Maybe CCleaner, which I used to "remove" the restore points, leaves all the data and just purges the listed entry.

That sounds like more than 4 restore points to me (unless you have tons of software). Did you check the box for 'show more restore points'?

Yep. I removed the rest but they'd taken me up to 50GB... The removal shortened the list but didn't reclaim any of the space (the reason for my original post).

Excellent. Thanks. Those scripts are just what the doctor ordered.

Do you know of any way to rename a Restore Point? The ones that software installs (including MS) creates are not particularly informative. It would be nice to be able to manipulate them.

This command should show everything taking the space.

This one should remove all restore points, but also previous file versions and etc, so use with caution!

If you want a gui you could try zvsscopy. Z-VSScopy

some of the functions stop after 30 days. some continue

I have an older version which does a good job
