Taskbar won't vanish, despite my checking the box

I've toggled the box several times but the taskbar never vanishes. Has anyone had this problem? TIA

You didn't reposition your taskbar did you? The auto-hide feature is not supported when the Windows 11 taskbar is placed in the upper or side positions even though the hide box will let you check it.

Franco: no, taskbar is at the bottom, but thanks for the info.

Oldschool: tried closing File Explorer but problem remains. Am considering re-booting but unfortunately have 46 unsaved Notepad files and it takes time to save 'em. (Yes, I know: "personal problem")

Check for pending notifications in the taskbar.

One of your open Notepad sessions may have a hiddent pop-up window or alert.

There is a Save All option in Notepad...you don't have to save one at a time.

I have that issue when 1 or more notepads are open - or a Malwarebytes scan is done running in the back of Chrome. When I close the pads or Malwaarebytes is done. I exit out of Malwarebytes - and the taskbar drops.
