Would like to gain some control over the "User" folder on my C drive. All kinds of crap that I don't want saved or ever allow anyone to ever see goes in there without my permission. I don't really want that folder to exist and I thought that I had deleted it several years ago, but low and behold, I create a folder getting ready for .zip on my desktop and go looking for it in explorer and it's not there. But when I do a search it shows up in my personal user folder which is not where I put it. It's very confusing to operate a system when it's doing all kinds of crazy rubbish that it wasn't requested to do. I found some confidential work files in there which I brought home to work on and there should be no trace of them outside the office, but low and behold, there they are. I need to put a stop to this behavior.
Thanks in advance. Any help appreciated.
Also, is there a way to possibly copy and paste the winver when I click Win Key + R. My system will not allow.

No you can't. Take a screenshot and save it.

First of all, You can not delete the user folder. Each login account has it's own user folder.

Seond, are your user folders, desktop/documents/pictures/ videos. defaulting to onedrive.Right click on each folder, select properties, select location tab. What is the location folder path for each one?

Third, if you have more than one device and your devices all use the same MS account to log in, and you have these devices backed up to onedrive, then what you see on one device you will see on them all.

Welcome to Eleven Forum.

You cannot do without the user folder. Your user profile is stored there as NTUSER.DAT (which is the HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry key you'll see in Regedit).

Also, most (if not all) programs and apps save their user data in the hidden Appdata folder in your user folder.

No, but you can copy and paste any of it from Settings > System > About > Windows specifications (or click the Copy button to copy it all).

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. As its new home has an existing digital licence for Pro I've been able to upgrade the migrated OS from Home to Pro.

I don''t have a microsoft account and I don't use onedrive.

you cant delete it because you wouldnt have a user profile if you did. if you need to be able to access it simply, just create a shortcut to

Isn't this your fault, for violating the policy, not to take them out of the office, and then to copy files to home computer, and then later forget to delete them from your system?

I guess you could setup your profile how you like it as a template as a new default profile, and then after each logoff delete the used temp profile, and with a relogin it load your custom default template again, so you start with a clean profile. We use this on Thinclients.. however might not be so practical, as it also need maintaince with updates and settings you want..

Actually you can. Take a screenshot with the Snipping Tool (Winkey+Shift+S). It has text recognition built in now....

I'm serious, it's probably the fastest!

I can not for the life of me work out how you could of deleted the user folder and still had a working operating system.
