Yeah, I pretty much focused on the negative aspects. I reread my post, and for someone who said hate was to strong of a word, it sounded pretty bad. I was pretty frustrated by some of the changes. I also went on to long about the windows 10 networking issue which isn't germane to this forum. I was trying to make a point and got a little lost.

I like Win 11. I have it installed on all of the computers my wife and I own. I upgraded my wife's laptop on the 4th of October and I haven't heard her complain and/or ask me to roll it back to Win 10. For a new OS it runs really well. The few bugs I've noticed are very minor. For me the one thing I would like to customize is the Start Menu. I would like to get rid of the space wasted for the Recommended section.

Hi there Gary,

Yes I'm talking about the Chrome based Edge, they seemed to have started really well with it, but now it's just a pain to use it was never the base code that bothered me, it was the lengths you have to go to on customising it. Take for instance a simple truly blank page for new tabs, you have to use an extension !! This used to be very basic browser options, not in Edge.

I am also for progress and change. With some cynicism, the sake of change was so far for the worse and just for monetary reasons rather than improving the product or providing a better experience for users.

THis has been the most frustrating windows updtae I have ever experienced. Windows 10 was rough, but Microsoft introduced a lot of performance and usability features that right off the bat and they were significant improvements. You could tell they had been working on 10 for some time.

With 11 it has been bupkis so far.

I had the impression that you were only familiar with the old original Edge.
I like the new Edge. Please ignore my suggestion that you might like the new Edge.

That is kind of the direction microsoft is heading though - minimize customizability, simplicity at the cost of usability. I don't think it is the right direction in most cases - and I don't think it is really what corporations are looking for.

Multiple Boot options for me, Windows 7,10, 11 all on separate SSD's
I find there is a use for each and every one of these OS from time to time.
I've encountered frustrations with every OS Micro$oft thrust upon us
but eventually I managed to find the thing I needed most from each of them.

A bit overkill I know having 3 OS but I still find a use for them from time to time.

I've switched on two systems now. Probably because macOS was the preferred system for development in all of the businesses I've been in for the past 15+ years, I'm pretty comfortable with 11. Honestly, I had a set of folders on my taskbar for years, and never really used them. I was so used to Spotlight I got to where I just hit Start, type a couple of keys, and launch whatever I'm using.

I do see how people who are really used to doing major modifications to their systems will be less compelled to use 11. Hopefully, MS will either make some modifications or allow the use of API's by third parties.

The new interface isn't necessarily a deal breaker for me, but I'm definitely in agreement with OP. I bought a NUC to replace bedroom PC that was very old and put Win 11 on it to begin with. While my main gaming rig will remain Win 10 until it's forced. I don't want to voluntarily update to it. I really don't like the taskbar on the bottom. And things I constantly access in Windows is annoyingly moved to too many steps to access. If I didn't know the name to search quickly to open, it'd be super annoying. Things like:

Windows Update manually
Task Manager
And just muscle memory of the taskbar on top and eye ball memory(lol) of looking at the top of the screen.
The arrangement of certain tasks in the tray. Like changing sound settings.
And I got used to and liked the larger tile shortcuts of the start menu for slightly frequently accessed apps.
And in windows 10 I used 3rd party software to center the taskbar pinned apps, but I liked having the Windows button in the corner. Now it's only either or.
I never cared for Widgets in MacOS, but I feel like Windows version could improve their version by opening with mouse movement to the edge of the screen or mouse track pad gesture.

Not quite sold on this argument. I mean people will complain the OS isn't Windows 7 or XP like; that the the UI sucks, the Start Menus sucks, the OS sucks, everything 11 sucks, but in the end they'll still wind up using it

And I personally don't think Microsoft should relent on the OS requirements or the direction 11 is headed. I mean if we listened to all the nay-sayers we'd still be riding horse drawn carriages and using telegraph

Could be tesseracts, or have Spock shaped ears for all I care -- just get a working efficient OS please !!! without arbitrary hardware limits which seem to be totally ignored on some systems not designed for W11 but then not installable on hardware that passes W11's OWN test. !!!

I'm with you. I believe you are right, and don't much like the direction they are going either. I like the flexibility to customize the work space to the way I work. Not the way someone TELLS me how it SHOULD be done.

:) yup... But car makers didn't remove the radios from the cars and tell everyone to use a third party streaming service because the radio takes up to much space.

Yeah... people will continue to use it. They will just "get used to it." Complacency is a wonderful tool. The need for reliable transportation outweighs the need for the radio.

I dont use it bare metal yet as I think the UI is a regression, hopefully over time, either Microsoft will fix the regressions or third party vendors will reverse engineer and provide tools to improve it.

I do think there is some improvements and its not all regressed though, I prefer the new settings applet e.g.
