Thunderbird 115: CSS Customization

Found it all. You just have to select Classic layout view, and Message List Header gives you back the little icon on the right called Message List Display Options, which offers the Cards/Table choice.

So now, I'm back to trying to figure out (again) how to get divider lines between messages in the message panel.

Discovered a few minutes ago that they run side-by-side without any problem IF I start the older version first, and THEN start 115. In the other order, I get the banner at the top of post #18 above. That might turn out to be a peculiarity of the Portable editions, though.

Discovered that in Classic layout with Message List header, I get the "Message list display options" icon way over on the right. That lets me choose between "Cards" layout and "Table" layout. With Table, I get the From-Subject-Date header back. With cards, no. I prefer the Cards display, so I'll forgo playing around with From-Subject-Date column headings for now. And lines between the messages in the message list: in Cards view, they're there. In Table view, no.

1 - Mailbird - still my Go-To.
2 - Thunderbird - really liking the beta!
3 - eM Client - feature rich, multi functionality.

lafargeotte; in case it helps, try to see if you are able to display your particular background color (#87CEFA) using these settings in the userChrome.css. I tried them using only the Dev tools, so not all elements might have been picked correctly, plus I am testing on a portable Version 116 beta (which had yet to implement the cards view described by Wisewiz previously).

Wow! That certainly succeeds with all the blue backgrounds. What I was hoping for (and still want) that it didn't do is (by removing padding at the top and bottom) make the height of the "Unified" control-button panel smaller, but it takes up just as much room with your file code as without it, so I'm still looking. May be an impossible quest, of course. On my screen, it's about an inch tall, which is about half an inch more than it needs to display the buttons well.

You mean the header atop open email messages? That thing is waaaay too big for what it tells us. If you find a way to shrink that, please post it on ElevenForum.

There is an add-on called 'Compact Headers' that works on previous versions, but not on v115 yet.
If I find a solution I will of course post here.

For the "Unified Toolbar", this appears to reduce it 'slightly' (add the padding-top/bottom values within the #unfiedToolbar code block above so it looks like this:

@das10: Yeah, I saw that in the original code that I copied and tried (#31 above), but I couldn't see any difference between the size of the space-hog with that code and without it. Maybe "slight" is "slighter" than my old eyes can pick up. I'll try it again, but with the background line deleted, since I don't mind the current background at all; just the vertical space consumed by the bar.

And along with @laforgeotte, I really would like to reduce the screen space taken up by email headers. The information an email header gives us could be given in a line or two, with a saving of about six-eight vertical line-spaces.

Thank you! I see it now! The difference on my screen is between about a full inch vertically and about 3/4 inch. That's noticeable.

And maybe @lafargeotte's Add-on will eventually show up again.

I'm personally waiting for the Manually Sort Folders add-on to be fitted to 115. I use it beautifully in TB102.x to shuffle my mail accounts and my Local Folders into my preferred order. The author says he's workin' on it. (I sent him a few bucks as an "incentive.")

@Wisewiz - Re your posts #1, #2 and #9 - I submitted an 'Idea' (request) for future TB releases to include the ability to toggle off/on the "All Address Books" so that we only see Personal and Collected addresses. This will avoid users having to use work-arounds which can get wiped out by updates. I believe people can vote thumbs up or 'Comment' on the idea. See: -

I also use manually sort folders, it really helps keep folders in good order, and personalise how you want them.

One thing, however: I have FOUR address books, not three. My 115 shows Personal, Collected, All, and just plain Address Book. I hid Personal and All, because I know that any changes I make to my Gmail contacts will sync with Address Book, and Collected seems useful, in that it copies any new outgoing address, and I can later decide whether to add it/them to my Address Book or just delete it/them. If I add them to my Add Bk, I see them in Contacts the next time I access Gmail through my browser. Collected doesn’t grab anything that’s in Address already, but I don’t know about Personal (yet).
