Thunderbird update popups

I use TB version 68, and don't want to update it. I have disabled auto update by selecting the manual option, but I keep getting popups asking me to update.

How do I stop these popups?

I am not confident in altering the registry so would like some other way if possible.

You can't do it from the GUI so you have to do it via the registry.
Copy & paste the content of the code box below as a TB.txt file then rename it as a .reg file like TB.reg.
Close TB itself, merge the file TB.reg by right clicking on it.
Restart TB.
See if that helps.
