time for thermal re-paste?

This laptop (Thinkpad x13) becomes really hot as soon as it booted. Fan becomes so loud and the cpu/fan area is very hot to touch.
Do you think I need to disassemble and apply new thermal paste?
Any testing need to be done prior?

Ideally, your CPU temperature should be around 60 to 70 degrees Celsius (140 to 158 degrees Fahrenheit) when running essential apps and around 40 to 45 degrees Celsius (104 to 113 degrees Fahrenheit) when sitting idle. Moreover, the safe CPU temperature range for gaming is roughly 70 to 80 degrees Celcius. If your CPU is regularly shooting above these temperature ranges, you need to clean your PC, improve the cooling system, and re-apply thermal paste.

Your temps aren't 'too' bad. A bit high.
Might want to try some cans of compressed air. Blow all the dust out of the laptop, then recheck your temps.

Re-doing the thermal compound on a laptop is not nearly as easy as doing it on a desktop.
So make sure you exhaust all other possibilities.

If the CPU heatsink gets hot, it's not a thermal paste issue. If the thermal compound is failing, that would mean that the heat isn't being transferred from the CPU to the heatsink.

The only thing that comes to mind is that the laptop is choked with dust. Not that I'd bet my life on that.

100ºC with only 6.8W is a sign that the CPU is not having any cooling.
Probably the heat sink is clogged with dust, but also can be a fan damage.

i think the 100c is the Tj max, but still, 70+c is still a lot. Also, fans sound going full speed...

fans and side fins seem to be clean, no build up. the paste though obviously would need replacement....

Like... Lenovo xx-xxxx-xx disassembly instructions.

Or... Lenovo xx-xxxx-xx replace thermal paste.

That fan is not clean, but not ridiculously dirty either.

After cleaning the whole thing, re-applying thermal paste and re-assembling, and if the temps don't go down at all, then the heat pipe may be broken. This may happen sometimes, although rarely.

Also, what is the ambient temps while measuring these temps? Also try to lift the laptop up a bit from the table. A few or even one centimeters more distance helps a lot.

Is the battery hot to touch and if plugged in,is the adapter hot?

You have to remove the fan from the heat sink. The dust accumulates between the two.
